What Pinot Noir Should You Drink If You Love Cabernet? - Pinkies Up Ep. 3

What Pinot Noir Should You Drink If You Love Cabernet? - Pinkies Up Ep. 3

Welcome to the newest episode of our wine series Pinkies Up! In this series, we answer questions 'normal' wine drinkers like Bridget have about wine.

With Thanksgiving almost here, and Pinot Noir being our number one wine recommendation for the Holiday, we wanted to find out what Pinot Noir you should drink if you love Cabernet. Nick is a huge fan of Pinot, and Bridget is an avowed Cab lover. Nick tried three different approaches to finding a Pinot Noir that Bridget would enjoy. Here are the approaches (and wines) Nick tried out.

  1. Try a Pinot Noir that doesn't taste like a Pinot Noir! Meiomi Pinot Noir is a big, fruity wine that really has much more in common with a Cabernet than "traditional" Pinot Noir. Nick thought that perhaps the bigger body of this wine, combined with the ripe fruit flavors (both unusual for classic Pinot Noir) may be something that Bridget enjoyed.
  2. Try a Pinot Noir that has some tannin in it! Cristom Pinot Noir is made using techniques that bring out tannin on the back end even though it has a lighter body. Many Cabernet drinkers like the dry tannins at the end of the wine, and maybe a Pinot Noir with tannin would appeal to Bridget.
  3. Finally, we just decided to try a really expensive, really well made Pinot Noir. The Domaine Parent 'Les Epenots' Pinot Noir from Pommard in Burgundy, France is a big, masculine style of Pinot Noir that comes from some of the best lands for Pinot Noir you could imagine. Maybe just having one of the best possible bottles of Pinot Noir would be something Bridget would like.
