~ Bridget and Nick
Hello everybody, we are going full Thanksgiving on this newest edition of Dinner Plus Drinks podcast.
SPEAKER_02I wish I had like a turkey hat. I forgot. I know, like yeah, I always see people wearing those. I don't own one, so they look like cow udders a little bit, though. Yeah, well, so how fitting. I mean, Lake Tino Country meets. Okay, anyway, I don't have one. But we're here to talk to you all about Thanksgiving. Are you guys ready? I love Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_00Do you love Thanksgiving? Um, probably not as much as you. Where do you rank Thanksgiving in your holidays?
SPEAKER_02Oh, it's around like fourth or so. That was a real quick thought, but yeah, it's not on the top. New Year's Eve. Is that your favorite holiday?
SPEAKER_00Oh my god, I love New Year's Eve.
SPEAKER_02This year especially, or I think this year's gonna be ultimately disappointing. Because 2021's just gonna keep being 2020.
SPEAKER_00Coronavirus is gonna go away at midnight.
SPEAKER_02We're gone. Yeah, we're gonna stick with Thanksgiving, which is much more promising. You love it because you can cook, I'm assuming.
SPEAKER_00I love the cooking. I love the football, I love the vegging out. Oh, yeah. Um, December 26th, Boxing Day is actually my third favorite holiday.
SPEAKER_02That's a ridiculous answer because most people in America work that day. Which I think should be a holiday. I agree.
SPEAKER_00Oftentimes, so like Stevie Ketcher meets if it's if it's like a Wednesday, we don't work on the 26th. We let everybody have two days off because like you had to work Christmas Eve. Yeah, uh, you're probably stressed out of your mind from the sprint, and then it goes all over again a week later for New Year's Eve, and nobody's gonna be in the store. So we give up the like $2,000 of sales that day. That's the nicest holiday. To let everybody have off. And if you're not aware of English Premier League soccer, it's so Nick can watch soccer. They have also bowl games. Okay, I don't care. I know everybody hates the Cheetos Honda.com Tostito Bowl Mobile Alabama, but you know what? I love it. I love watching two random teams. I pull my chair into the middle of the room, veg out, eat some pizza, drink some beer. It's great. So those are my favorite holidays. That's terrible. Still involves sports and food.
SPEAKER_02I love sports and food, but that is not how I rank my holidays. Oh, I wish I would have prepared for this because I can't tell you, but boxing day is definitely not on top of the list. Uh Christmas, I love Christmas. Um, but I also love Fourth of July. I like Thanksgiving. I just don't care about it. Like, I don't do I love hosting, and I don't even try to host anything on Thanksgiving because come on, no one wants to cook, no one wants to eat the food I'm cooking. Also, I don't enjoy it. Like cooking a giant meal, that's a lot of chaos. I don't know. I don't enjoy it. So, like on Christmas, though, I host Christmas Eve and just make appetizers and cocktails, and it's the best.
SPEAKER_00Guys, we're gonna go to product recommendations right now. Because my phone just informed me. Target Circle, you can get 40% off family holiday clothing. Okay, everybody. Really glad about that. Get up on Target Circle if you're not. That's my product recommendation. That's a terrible product recommendation. We're gonna keep talking about Thanksgiving. But first, look at all this wine in front of us. If you're if you're not watching on YouTube, you don't see these seven bottles of wine at full.
SPEAKER_02I'm sorry, I'm distracted. Um, by Nick's terrible product recommendation. Yeah, tell us what these are from because I was a part of this Zoom call, and it was awesome.
SPEAKER_00So last night, uh, we record we record on Fridays, obviously, as we've said. Uh last night, Thursday night, we did a virtual wine talk and tasting with Anthony Truchard and Sale Diani of Truchard Vineyard. Uh, Sale's the winemaker. Anthony is the general manager, second generation family member there. Yes. Uh, it was a great time. We had seven wines that we tried. Uh, most people didn't have seven. I did, Bridget did. I did. You're welcome. Sure I did. But here we are, bright and shiny. Um so we still have all the wine left over. So I figured let's just drink our wine, uh drink our way through our Thanksgiving table. Because that's what Thanksgiving's about. That's the other thing I love about Thanksgiving.
SPEAKER_02Well, when you're wine holiday. So I can just sit on the couch and drink the wine.
SPEAKER_00What do you want?
SPEAKER_02Umperno. So what I, you know, we were talking about what to drank today for the podcast, and I was on the Zoom call last night. And Nick, so you should check out the thanksgiving.lgmeats.com. We talk all about what wine you should have at Thanksgiving, and it's a Pinot Noir. And I'm like, oh, but last night you mentioned the Zin, the True Shard Zin, wherever that is. Um, oh here. So I was like, maybe we should talk about that as an alternative option instead of Pinot Noir.
SPEAKER_00It's a great alternative option. You'll see a lot of hipster Somaliers say like, oh, you should have a Zinfandel, but only these very specific, very expensive Zinfandels.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, actually that Zin is way better than any red Zin I've ever had.
SPEAKER_00So it's, you know, kind of like pretentious a little bit because you have to go for like such a specific thing.
SPEAKER_02Cheers, Bridget. Hey, cheers. Yes, I didn't fill it full way because I intend on having a different kind as well. But um, anyway, this Zin is awesome. This Temperanill is the best wine I've had as of late. And tell us where you can get it.
SPEAKER_00You can get it exclusively. The Temper Neo and the Zinfandel and this Old Black Pinot Noir are exclusive to like Geneva country meats.
SPEAKER_02I think that's important. You know, my I think favorite part of the call last night. The I have to say, like generally, I didn't think I was like, I don't know if this is gonna be all that interesting, but it was fascinating. Um, Anthony and Sal, the gentleman that were speaking, were interesting and approachable and not at all what I expected from like a winemaker and an owner of a wonderful, amazing winery. So anyway, at the end of the call, um, people were asking questions, writing into the Zoom meeting. And Anthony, the owner, um, excuse me, he said, you know what, we're doing fine. He's like, We've we've been really lucky, we've been able to ship our wines all over the world. We've been fine during COVID. So please buy our wines at places like Leichene of Country Meets. So buy them at small local wine shops or at your local grocery stores, buy them at the small businesses, so they're still here next year to buy our wine.
SPEAKER_00And if you and if you see restaurants that are doing carry out that have a wine pairing option, support that because especially restaurants that do a good work, and True Shard's not cheap. Like, you know, the cheapest bottle here is 20 bucks. So it's not cheap. I would definitely say it's a good value. Yeah, I agree. It's they bought the land in 1978, so they paid a very low amount of money for it and don't have a mortgage on it anymore. So they can charge lower prices than someone that came in and bought it in 19, you know, ninety-nine and paid a million dollars an acre and has a mortgage on it. Economics are a little different. Same thing with places like Frog's Leap, Mundavi. You can get some really good values from these places that have been there for a long time. Um but they depend on selling their wines to good on-premise restaurant accounts, and these restaurants are buying with the idea of holding and sellering. And so they have tens of thousands of dollars of dead cost in their cellars, and um, they need to get rid of it. So to keep cash flow. So if you see, uh I know a lot of places you're doing takeout. If you see a wine pairing option, just trust the Psalm. Let them get something. Maybe you'll try something new, maybe you won't like it, but you tried something new and you support that. And that's what's gonna keep places like Tree Shark going too.
SPEAKER_02I thought it was a cool, I just thought it was a great tip. It was a nice angle because they were like, we want to be able to sell our wine to those places next year. Um, I think the Temperanio specifically, wasn't that the one that Sal said is like really game-changing with food? Yep. Which I did not eat with food, and I'm not again today, but I trust that it's even better. So anyway, great wine picks.
SPEAKER_00Um drink wine. Wine. You know, Thanksgiving is the biggest wine holiday of the year.
SPEAKER_02I know you said that the other day, which is actually shouldn't be surprising to me.
SPEAKER_00Because like Christmas, you're probably running all over. Yeah. Uh you're doing it in the middle of the day oftentimes. Uh grabbing Baileys in your coffee. Like you're doing all sorts of things. Um you're probably just with family, like immediate family. You're doing it with your kids or your parents or something like that. Thanksgiving, everybody there. You know, your annoying uncle, the cousin that won't stop talking about your like, you know, my my boyfriend is a Ferrari dealer, and I, you know, like all the annoying things. Like, so many good things. How do you deal with that? Wine. Wine is how do you deal with it?
SPEAKER_02Okay, so before you get to the wine, I have a hot topic to discuss about Thanksgiving. And I know my cousin Megan's listening. Hello, Megan. Hello, Megan. She is uh Is she the twin? Hello, she's not a twin, other side of the family. Uh this is my mom's side. Uh so my cousin Megan, I think we talked about her in a previous discussion about running. Um, so I'm here to talk about Thanksgiving 5Ks. And really, like I've been thinking of Megan a lot because I'm so happy that she's a listener. Um, and she just she runs half marathons um as well as I. And previously. Previously, I used to run half marathons.
SPEAKER_00Previously on the West Wing. Someone says previously, I was here. Previously on the West Wing.
SPEAKER_02So I was wondering if Megan ran turkey trouts when I brought the when I was like thinking about today's uh outline. So anyway, I know your stance on Thanksgiving 5Ks.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I love them. But you stopped doing them? Yeah, we just ran out of time with kid and too many families and expectations of cooking turkeys.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, have and you did them in Burlington a couple of years prior to that.
SPEAKER_00I think we're actually gonna do one this year, Sarah and I and Samelia. We're gonna do like our own. Oh I don't know if we're gonna run it, but we're gonna try and we're gonna try and you know, put her in the stroller, walk it because uh the way plans fell through, kind of, we have a morning open and it's like either I go do some like ridiculously preposterous cooking. Yeah. Or we just spend some time as a little family. So I think we're gonna try and do our own. Did you path? Did you make a path yet? No, because I'm very concerned about that. We wanna like check the weather and the you know come on, you can't.
SPEAKER_02That's part of the fun, man. I mean you gotta go, even if it's raining.
SPEAKER_00Simona She can handle it. Babies come on.
SPEAKER_02I have run a 5K for years, so I let me start with that.
SPEAKER_00She put her head into the corner of my laptop this morning. Just here, I'll demonstrate for you watching like this. And was pissed off for the next 10 minutes. Yeah. So I don't know if she can handle it. She's a delicate flower. She's now Lucy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, she can handle the cold weather. Babies are resilient. She's also a toddler now. She's not a baby anymore, Nick. She will always be a baby. Oh god. Okay. Moving on. I'm still on turkey trucks. Because Nick interrupted me with his laptop comment. So I never did them until skipped ahead to kick corner, skipped ahead to product recommendations. You are driving me crazy. This is what happens when we go off outline. Nick's just like, we're talking about Thanksgiving today. I'm gonna have wine first. I want to talk about 5K's.
SPEAKER_00We talked about 5Ks. No, you talked about 5Ks. What is Megan doing?
SPEAKER_02I don't know, Megan. Can you write us in and let us know if you're running a 5K? In a normal year, would you run a 5K? This year, um, so I didn't start running 5Ks until um my in-laws started doing it. And um, my in-laws own the restaurant Simple here in Lake Geneva. And they started as a, I don't know if my sister, my sister works there. It's all related here. I don't know who started it, but they started running as a team. So like all simple employees would all go run this on Thanksgiving. I thought this is fun. So all a lot of me and my brother-in-laws and significant others and such would run it along with the team from Simple. And it was so fun. It just ended up being something I loved so much. And the course was really great in Burlington.
SPEAKER_00But then like you go by the river and stuff, it's kind of cool.
SPEAKER_02One year there was ice and they took away the coolest part of the course. Um, but anyway, I don't I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Just like double looped or something.
SPEAKER_02But anyway, before that, I've also run one in Elkhorn and then I ran one in Bigfoot Beach State Park when Clearwater used to do it, and it was the worst weather. It was it's right on the lake. For those of you that are not local, this state park is right on Lake Geneva. And you know, once you got back into the woods, it was fine. But we, my sister used to have an apartment very nearby, and we walked down to the start line and it was like whipping winds and 30 degrees. And anyway, turkey trots I think are hilarious. They make me feel like I've earned my meal, even though like you burn nowhere near as many calories as you eat or drink on Thanksgiving. So I want to know if you guys are doing turkey trots. And if you do, send us a photo because that's half the fun when people wear like the hilarious turkey hats, which I'm committed to doing this year.
SPEAKER_00So another topic of conversation is when I run these, I if it's cold outside, I wear running tights.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god, we talked about this the other day.
SPEAKER_00I put uh we're gonna talk about it later this time. I feel like you own running tights. Uh yeah, I have two pairs. Okay. I just can't believe that. I like wearing I I don't like cramping, okay? You think running tights help you with that? Oh yeah, they keep it warm, they can offer compression. Like, why do you think LeBron James wears them as he's some of them are compression?
SPEAKER_02Regular running tights aren't. You have to buy the compression.
SPEAKER_00Okay, Nick.
SPEAKER_02Nick has running tights, everybody.
SPEAKER_00So so what is your objection to them?
SPEAKER_02Oh, I mean, I love them. I just men wearing them are hilarious to me. I'm sexist. But then it is sexist, it was terrible. I should never have said that. And men wearing them with shorts over it, great, cool. But you have to clarify that. Nobody wants to see your junk. It is a funny thing. I mean, but honestly, what else do you think?
SPEAKER_00You what? Like wrestling singlets. What about him?
SPEAKER_02Like, nobody wants to see that. Oh, yeah, I know. I used to watch a lot of wrestling in high school for whatever reason, and yeah, it's gross. It's really gross. I do feel for men because so my darling, loving, wonderful husband Tyler, never runs the turkey trout with us. Never.
SPEAKER_00So he doesn't have to deal with it. He's very tall and gouty.
SPEAKER_02I mean, he's not always that way. Anyway, he doesn't like to run, so you do you, man. And he's always at home with a delicious breakfast. I have a news story. I remember, I'm gonna find it. Okay, Nick is going all over the place. Okay, other good news about Thanksgiving that 2020 has not ruined. Macy's will still be doing their parade. But Lake Geneva won't. I know. Lake Geneva just canceled their Christmas parade. Whatever. It's a topic for another day. But um, Macy's is still doing theirs, which I was really excited about because that is my favorite thing to do on Thanksgiving. Um, after the run, you come home and you have given given yourself an excuse to be lazy. You can start drinking your wine at 9 a.m. when the parade is. Um, so I think they're just no, they're not allowing any live, you know, anyone to sit and watch it in New York, which is fine. I never did. So um, but our cousin, the cousins we were speaking about, their high school actually got to go play in it. Their high school band, um, God, how many years ago was that now? I don't know, a long time ago, but Greendale got to go play in that. So that was pretty cool. That was pretty cool. We knew some people that got to go see it. Never me.
SPEAKER_00So anyway, do you care about the parade? Um, I'm not a big parade person. I understand why people like it. Parades in general, or just that? No, that parade. I I mean, I understand why people like it. I'm usually cooking during it. Yeah. Sarah's big into it. She always sits down. So it's like on in the back. Yeah, I just I'm not like super, super into it. I think it's cool. Like, yeah, I understand why people like it. I don't judge people who like it.
SPEAKER_02Just do you judge people who like to run on Thanksgiving?
SPEAKER_00I was talking to someone about um I had a friend that was like very disappointed Wonder Woman's going direct to video on demand.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, hadn't heard that.
SPEAKER_00Because it's gonna like make the numbers look bad in Hollywood studios and be like, see, female superhero movies don't work. That's terrible. And they're talking about how important representation is, and I was like, honestly, I've like the closest thing like I've ever been like, yeah, that's someone like me that I've ever seen on a film is Hermione Granger. Which is, you know, a weird thing. Yep. So like nerd that does the right thing, that's kind of I re I I I go with that. So like, but I don't understand the power of representation. Like I just I don't I don't think I ever will.
unknownWhy?
SPEAKER_00I've never I've never felt the like, oh, you know, hey, there's someone like me doing something, I can do it. I guess I've always been like, I can just do whatever. Yeah, so but like I can understand how other people would have a different experience. And it's just like one of those things I'm like, I I don't understand it, but I understand it's important for you, and I choose to believe you, and that's how I feel about the parades. Interesting. I don't really understand, it's not really my thing. Okay. I can understand why you would enjoy it, and I'm happy to enjoy it.
SPEAKER_02I just it reminds me of my childhood. I remember getting up super early with my dad, and like it probably wasn't super early, but I when I was young, I probably thought it was just like yanking all the weird things out of the turkey, and he would put them in, and then we'd sit down and watch the parade.
SPEAKER_00The weird things? You mean like I said the weird things and the heart?
SPEAKER_02I have no idea. Whatever you pull out, and then there's like a weird plastic bag, and it's great gravy.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, those are my memories, pulling out the weird things, and then we would sit and watch the parade. So I don't know. That was pre-before that's before I ran 5K's on Thanksgiving. So what?
SPEAKER_00Let's talk about some food. Non-Thanksgiving food. Non-Thanksgiving food. If if you follow us on Instagram, maybe you should follow my new Instagram account. It's called What Nick Cooked. What Nick Cooked.
SPEAKER_02Nick wants to see if he can have as many Instagram accounts as me. Uh he's not even halfway there.
SPEAKER_00I actually got annoyed by people. So when I put when I post stuff of like food pictures, because I like doing that sometimes, you know. Yeah, it's like hey, cool. This one, people always ask me for recipes. I'm like, I don't know. Like, do things, do stuff, like just that's not a recipe.
SPEAKER_02This is a discussion I have with my mom a lot. So a dash of this and a little of that is not a recipe.
SPEAKER_00I started a new Instagram account called What Nick Cooked. I'm committing to trying to put all of the dinners I cook on there. Uh, some look really beautiful, some don't. The one I put up last night was like a ground beef skillet that looks ugly, but it's delicious and it's fast. And with like just easily written conversational directions on how you can do it. So hopefully people that are interested in what I cook, because it seems like people are interested in that, can follow that and you can get some ideas and see how easy it is to make a lot of the stuff I make. And the best thing I had were these beef empanadas that were yummo. You made beef empanadas? Yeah. Oh. Um, wait.
SPEAKER_02You didn't see them? No, no. But hold on. Um, are you gonna add everything you make for Thanksgiving? It feels like a big Instagram day for you. Oh, yum, those look delicious. I love empanadas.
SPEAKER_00And they're easy because you just get a Pillsbury pie crust, cook the filling, put it in the middle, fold it over, and bake it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So you don't have to like mess around with not making any so easy. Um wait, are you gonna put all your Thanksgiving things on there?
SPEAKER_00Yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, you heard it here, everybody.
SPEAKER_00If he doesn't be a big insta day for Nick.
SPEAKER_02Start hitting up his DMs asking where his recipes are. I'll let you slide in them DMs. Okay, everybody. I did like a little Thanksgiving with a twist um this past week and tried some fall recipes. Um, just messing around with some things. And I always like once a year want to make a stuffed acorn squash. I don't know why, I just think they're beautiful and they're always delicious. So we did that, um, vegetarian style, and made uh it with quinoa and goat cheese and like cranberries and papitas. It was so good. It sounds awesome. So good and it was beautiful. Um, so I want to like get a mini-in-law over for that? No, but I it's a missed opportunity. I wanna like my first thought was I should bring these to Thanksgiving where um they would really appreciate my in-law's Thanksgiving, where they would really appreciate it. I want to make um, I wish they had like miniature ones. It could be like a side dish. Maybe they do. I don't know. Farmers, do you have mini acorn squash? Farmer bath. You have all the squashes. I I gotta think there's some, maybe it doesn't have to be an acorn squash. Anyway, they were stuffed squash and they were beautiful. Also, there was some kind of I did not make, I bought frozen cheddar chive biscuit that was the Was it the red lobster one? I'm no, but I've never had those, but whatever. These were so good. So anyway, I did a little like, you know, fall meal that felt fancy for me. So I made that.
SPEAKER_00I'm Googling different types of squashes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Did you find me a mini one? I know you could buy them in all different sizes. I just need like it was very filling.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. That's why stuffed peppers work so well, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Tyler's a big fan. So anyway, Nick made in bananas. I made like, you know, Thanksgiving round one. Love it. Um, I don't care. I mean, I like turkey. I just never think to make it besides Thanksgiving week. Yummo. Yummo. So anywho, excuse me. Can I go back in order now or no? Yeah. You already shouted out your product recommendation, which was garbage, by the way.
SPEAKER_00Target Circle. You save 5% circle uh Target all the time, and then they give you all sorts of like, hey, actually get 40% off. It's crazy.
SPEAKER_02I do have to tell you, uh, as a side note, having nothing to do with Thanksgiving about Target real fast, I got really mad about this Target Circle crap. Um, because like, why don't they just have a rewards card like the rest of every store everywhere? They do. But um it's an app, not a credit card though.
SPEAKER_00No, you can be in circle and get 1% off, or you can pay on your target card and get 5% off.
SPEAKER_02So anyway, I just like protested it for a long time. And then finally I was like, because you used to have to like scan every item in your cart and see if there was a deal. And I'm like, this is Oh yeah, that was dumb.
SPEAKER_00That was dumb.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So then during the transition, I was like, I don't care. I don't, this is stupid, but I still have the app. So it's I was with you. Oh my god, so dumb. 100% with you. And yes, we're going on a caveat because all of you listening shop at Target. We know that. So um now they have fixed. I went in the app one day and it was like, you have $30 of rewards to use. And I was like, what? So I ended up getting $30 off my bill because you know, you at least spend $50 every time you go into Target. Every time. Yeah. Anyway, so good job, Target. Thanks for fixing it. Um, I do not have, I'm not a red card holder because I'm not a big credit card fan, but you know.
SPEAKER_00I'm a huge credit card fan. You're paying me 5% to use your credit card. Awesome. I know. Okay, I'll be better.
SPEAKER_02Uh what's your product? Well, it's not my product, everybody. I'm here, because I'm a good person, Nick, to talk about a small business of mine.
SPEAKER_00I mean something small compared to Walmart.
SPEAKER_02No. Um, okay, so we're talking about Thanksgiving. I get that. But right after Thanksgiving, we've got the dreaded Black Friday. Small business Saturday. The even better small business Saturday. Cyber Monday. So Giving Tuesday. Stopping all all the holidays. But Small Business Saturday.
SPEAKER_00The Earth people took over one too, right? Like Wednesday is like a green, like what is it called? I don't know. Like, I think we should just figure out like every Week after they like an advent calendar of every day.
SPEAKER_02Prostate Cancer Tuesday. Oh my God. Okay. We mentioned, what, a week or two ago when we were like starting talking about more holiday gift guide items on here that we were gonna look at small businesses. So um one of our very favorite small businesses, and I say our because I know Nick shops there.
SPEAKER_00I know we have some beautiful arrangements upstairs right now.
SPEAKER_02Yep. Even my sister in Washington, if she is sending flowers for any occasion, she calls Tommy's. So Tommy's Garden Blooms. Um, Tommy is awesome. She is my age, she has kids my age, my kids' ages. Um, you know, she's in the community. We know her family. She lives downtown Lake Geneva and she has an awesome, adorable little um flower shop and does a really nice job. And on Small Business Saturday, she also just put up her Christmas tree farm. So she sells Christmas trees there. And on Small Business Saturday, if you go and buy your tree from her, um, Sarah Barens is a local photographer. She's partnered up with Tommy's, and Sarah will take a photo of you and your family with your new tree. So I will tell you that, Tommy, I'm sorry, I'm ashamed to admit I have not bought my tree from you in the past. I bought it at a different small business, but I am switching this year and we'll get my tree at Tommy's and um take a photo with Sarah, who has done our family photos for years, and I'm super excited. I just think that's like such a nice little add-on and a great reason to get people to buy their trees somewhere small. It's genius. So, Tommy, I'll be there on small business Saturday. We have a fake tree. I know I hate fake trees. Shannon has one too, and she's really trying to, you know, tell me why it's so great. And she's got a lot of really great reasons, but I just can't make the switch.
SPEAKER_00I I again, I'm just happy for you. I think I'm not happy for you. I'm a mean person and I don't like fake trees. Wow.
SPEAKER_02Wow.
SPEAKER_00Okay, guys, Bridget, that is I don't understand fake trees. All right, Bridget, we're going into fantasy update. So let's Are we skipping this? Let's talk about. Oh, why are we skipping this? I lost, but I deserved to lose. Okay, I you were looking good. Like you were projecting.
SPEAKER_02I switched the tone of this um when I wrote my notes, and I said, man, great team sport, Spencer. So I was playing Spencer this week, uh, my brother-in-law, and I looked at it on like Thursday. What does great team sport mean? I don't know. I was like writing nice words and it obviously meant team player, but it wasn't. Anyway, Spencer was really awesome this week. So I looked at my team on Thursday or something, and I had someone injured, and then like I didn't have someone to fill his spot, and I just gave up. I was like, you know what? I don't care. I'm over it this week. I was busy. I just was like, I'm gonna lose and it's gonna be fine. So Spencer, and I don't pay attention like to the playoffs or any of that. I'm like, cool, if I made it to the playoffs, great. Spencer texts me and was like, girl, put a kicker in. And I'm like, I don't care, Spencer. Like, I just haven't. I'm gonna lose. And he's like, no, his team didn't do as well as he was projected to. And so then it like I had a chance. So he's like, no, you could win this, and you're right on the cusp of playoffs. And I'm like, crap. So then I cared and I made a whole bunch of switches and I still lost. But I don't have a losing record. I'm five and five, which I'm okay with. I mean, you don't have a winning record either. Right. I'm just happily in the middle. Um, but I just want to say a big thanks to Spencer. I'm thankful for that because we're on Thanksgiving week. So anyway, I lost, but I'm thankful that Spencer was so kind to tell me that I should get my shit together and update my team.
SPEAKER_00It's time for interesting questions with Bridget and Nick. I feel like Nick is punishing me this week, so I'm just not in on this. So, alright. Thanksgiving would you rather? Okay. And this is tough because you're not into Thanksgiving. I do like Thanksgiving. So I I pick some that I think will work. Would you rather be in charge of the Snoopy balloon or the Snoop Dogg balloon?
SPEAKER_02That was my question for you. I mean, except you changed it because Snoop Dog's not a real balloon in the parade. But wouldn't it be cool if there was a Snoop Dogg? Here is my issue with this. I would obviously choose Snoop Dogg. Um, Snoopy is iconic and classic, so I would want that one, except I don't really care about the Snoopy balloon. Like I would want Tom the turkey. I want like the iconic classic. I thought Snoopy was the classic one. I think it is, but I feel like there's probably a turkey balloon. I don't remember. I don't um I don't want the Snoopy balloon. So I guess Snoop Dogg. That was my bonus question for you from last week. I'm sorry I ruined it. Uh okay. So I'm saying Snoop Dogg. Do you want a classic?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, actually, I want I want the Snoopy one.
SPEAKER_02I am deeply invested on the logistics of the Macy's parade. My Brittany had a sister that worked for Macy's and like, or sister, a friend that worked for Macy's named Karen. And I want to like call Karen and be like, you don't know me. I met you once in New York, and I want to talk to you all about the logistics of the parade because she worked on the parade team. And yeah, I just want to know everything about it.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, that'd be like a great have you seen the like Disney World behind the scenes, like how they turn it into like that.
SPEAKER_02I'm sure it exists, but I am in on it. So, like, how heavy are these balloons? I feel like like they're pretty heavy. Could I be a balloon carrier person?
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, there's a lot of them, so you know. I think you could do it. Okay. I think you could do it. Could Elliot kids do it?
SPEAKER_02Elliot. Okay, so you want classic Snoopy. Yep. Okay, cool, cool.
SPEAKER_00Would you rather let's see. Let's see. Oh, here's a good one. This one's a good one for you. Would you rather wear a silly hat to Thanksgiving dinner or wear funny mittens on Christmas morning?
unknownSilly hat.
SPEAKER_02Oh. So you can wear your turkey hat. Yeah, I want to wear a hat because again, I don't care about Thanksgiving dinner. I mean, it's delicious, but like uh especially this year, I feel like you can get away with wearing whatever you want. However, I will use it as an excuse to get dressed up, even if I'm just like in my house, because I like to get dressed up and I will wear a hat. Like I wish, like I wish I could wear a hat today. Also, mittens would one make me really hot. I don't like sweaty hands, and two, hard to like wrangle the children, drink the mimosas, open the things.
SPEAKER_00Would you rather sing the national anthem before the Detroit Lions traditional Thanksgiving game? Okay. Or would you rather be a background dancer during the halftime entertainment?
SPEAKER_02Oh, so I'm a bad dancer and singer. Yes. Um shoot, I was gonna go with dancing, but I like to watch the game.
SPEAKER_00So I guess I'd like to sort of But if you're the dancer, it's just during halftime.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but but like you're preparing ahead of time. So you're really only catching half the game.
SPEAKER_00Left and right shark got like famous. So put his shark costume on and like Oh, a tough call.
SPEAKER_02Okay, I guess Left Shark returned. I think it'd be so fun. Can you sing the national anthem? Uh every time I see someone screw up, I like quiz myself in my head, like, I'm pretty sure I would fail at this too. Like, I can sing it, but not no.
SPEAKER_00It's a lot of words, it's incredibly hard to sing.
SPEAKER_02And everyone thinks they know all the words until you try and sing it, not to music or not to words like with someone else, you know.
SPEAKER_00We need to redo our national anthem because it's the most impossible thing to sing. Like it's just the the the vocal ranges and the key, it's terrible.
SPEAKER_02So would you rather sing or dance?
SPEAKER_00Oh, I would rather dance. Like, yeah, because I mean, I would just put the shark costume on and be like, return a left show. I forgot about that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I guess I have to. It'd be funny.
SPEAKER_00I could be a meme. I th good question.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I haven't seen anything about it.
SPEAKER_00Maybe like a socially distanced one. I feel so bad about football.
SPEAKER_02I love okay, that was dumb. That was insensitive. I'm sorry. I feel bad about so many things that are far more important than bad about football. It's okay. Just one of the things making me sad. Okay, please don't get mad at me about that.
SPEAKER_00Final question Would you rather eat the entire turkey by yourself or eat all the stuffing by yourself? So eight pounds of turkey or three pounds of stuffing.
SPEAKER_02Do I have a time limit? No. Stuffing. Still stuffing. Um, because turkey makes me so tired and I can eat all the bread in the world. Also, it depends who's stuffing. Your stuffing, very good. Boxed stovetop, also good. Um, yeah, I guess both of them would fill me up so much. So I could have stuffing for brunch, lunch, and dinner.
SPEAKER_00You could fry it up and it's a hash.
SPEAKER_02Oh, great idea. Mix it with eggs. Wow, look at all these great cooking tips for you. Those were good, Nick. Thanks. Thanks. Thanks. I was really curious about your um parade float preference, but I didn't know that you were kind of like.
SPEAKER_00I love Snoopy. I love Snoopy. Yeah. If I actually, if I could do any float or balloon of anything in the world.
SPEAKER_02That's a tough question. You can just come up with that on the top of your head.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm trying to think of like my favorite, most beloved fictional characters.
SPEAKER_02Hermione Granger.
SPEAKER_00Hermione Granger. Nick and Hermione. Definitely do Hermione. Yes, but no, I would hold the Hermione Granger Blue. If there was a Hermione Granger blue, I would hold that one. I wouldn't definitely that would be the one. Well, I mean, she's like an exemplar of, you know, boys. Great.
SPEAKER_02What I find fascinating about.
SPEAKER_00Telling your friends when they're wrong. Is it standing up for right things?
SPEAKER_02There is an incredible production value that goes into this parade, obviously, right? Yet somehow the lip syncing is always so bad. Like, why is that just an accepted part of the parade?
SPEAKER_00I love the floats and how they have the people like holding on the railing. Yeah, yeah. That are like it's because they have like Broadway cast and then they have like not even the like backups, or they have like random schlub A on the float. Like that's me. Slub A. I think it's so funny. Doing the like painted on smile and hands, and like, dude.
SPEAKER_02This is part of why it's so fun to watch.
SPEAKER_00I like the racettes. I like when I like that part because I'm just like there's always a great pea coat or two.
SPEAKER_02So I like when the weather's cold enough that they wear coats. When it's warm and they're just like in a sweater, boring.
SPEAKER_00So I I don't really want to judge people. Like, I I don't, I'm not I like dancing, but I'm not like a dancer, you know. Like it's fun, you know, you shake it a little bit. Um, and I get like how important it is to a lot of people. Our good friend Josie like dances life for him. And uh like I get it. The racats, I do not get that at all. Well, why? How much time, energy, blood, sweat, tears people put into like lifting their legs over their heads.
SPEAKER_02To be that in sync with that many people is a very big skill.
SPEAKER_00I agree, it's a very big skill, but I'm like, it's a very specific, like you have two years of.
SPEAKER_02Can you kick your leg that high?
SPEAKER_00No, I can't. I don't understand why that's something people value that much. Wow. I don't want to see like I I don't really. We are disagreeing on so many things this time. I think it's a great skill, but I'm like, I don't really who who wants like it's a like Irish River Dance. I don't want to see that shit.
SPEAKER_02I mean, uh I hear you.
SPEAKER_00Um and people work their entire lives to be on this tour. I'm like, it's cool. Like, it's a great skill, but it's like a one-trick pony thing. I'm not really that interested in it. I am I would rather watch would you can sport? Just like soccer, just like cricket?
SPEAKER_02Sure. It's a sport. Billiards. No, it's actually far more work, I would venture a guess than billiards.
SPEAKER_00Cricket's a lot of work. You gotta run back and forth between the wickets.
SPEAKER_02Okay, dancing's a lot of work.
SPEAKER_00I agree.
SPEAKER_02And I'm sure trying to kick my head higher or my leg higher than this table.
SPEAKER_00Do you believe that there's like physical activities and sports? Do you think NASCAR is a sport?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I mean, it's widely recognized as a sport. Oh, wow. Good dodge there, politician. Here's what I have. I would be a very good politician. Um I'm raising Lucy to be the next president. Oh, okay. Um I have to say yes with a question mark because I've never tried to drive an ASCAR car. And I imagine there is a lot of like strength and power that I am unaware of that goes into driving a car that fast.
SPEAKER_00Okay, I got one more would you rather for you? I'm gonna do a little quick research. Okay. Would you rather have Thanksgiving dinner with Leslie Nope or Fiona Gallagher?
SPEAKER_02Oh, that is an impossible question. Slash I know the answer. Leslie Nope.
SPEAKER_00Leslie Nope for America.
SPEAKER_02Do you wanna know why? It's gonna sideway right into my next point. I'm a big classic holiday person. Like classic holiday tradition. She would like get all dressed up and sing the right songs. There's not Thanksgiving songs, but like you know, Fiona Gallagher would like not. Um so I want, which which we're gonna talk about here, which is like what food are you most looking forward to?
SPEAKER_00What's your favorite Thanksgiving? So we we've established you're not all over it.
SPEAKER_02Well, I I say that, but like I'm shockingly still very particular, even though I bring nothing to the table on Thanksgiving. All I do is show up and I'm like, can I annoy you in the kitchen and taste these things? Can I take the bag out of the turkey and throw it out? Can I watch you take the bag out of the turkey? Can I bring you this wine? Is what I will offer this year. See, that's a great, great skill. Yeah, it's a skill that's new, though. Um can I shower while you do all the work because I just ran a 5K? So anyway, um, I have two very different Thanksgivings. My in-laws like usually do some kind of alternative thing. I think turkey meatballs is what they're doing this year. They were discussing steak. So like they do some kind of alternative thing and it's great and it's always yummy food.
SPEAKER_00But I always like the turkey meatball idea.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I could have turkey meatballs every day. So I'm missing, I mean, I realize I could have turkey every day too, but I don't. So I find myself missing like traditional Thanksgiving meal because my family has had the same Thanksgiving dinner for 30 years. So I mean, we like occasionally change things, which I feel like is giving Nick hives over here, but it's very traditional. And like, I think I can speak for Shannon when I say like we are mad if it does not have the most traditional things.
SPEAKER_00I'm a very traditional Thanksgiving person too.
SPEAKER_02This is not necessarily my favorite thing, but like I will never ever eat it anytime ever, ever, except on Thanksgiving, is that disgusting green bean casserole.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I can't do green bean casserole in general. I just not my gross.
SPEAKER_02Um, but if you get the perfect bite.
SPEAKER_00I get I get yeah, I get it.
SPEAKER_02Like if you get the bite with the French on with the crunchy onions, then it's okay. It's good. To me, it's just like the quintessential thing. I definitely never eat ever, except Thanksgiving Day. So I love, like, that's a thing we definitely don't eat at my in-laws, but we have at my parents just because we're supposed to, but no one really loves it that much. So I love a good old Thanksgiving like traditional style, Norman Rockwell style.
SPEAKER_00Mine is, I'm gonna cheat. My favorite thing on Thanksgiving is the KFC famous bowl, but like not the KFC version of it, but the like bite you get where it's you get the like mashed potato base, a little bit of the turkey, uh, a little bit of cranberry sauce, a little bit of stuffing, and then just like drizzle gravy over, and you're like, Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Were you always like a mix your food person? Oh yeah. So I was not, I was like, give me the separated plate, but I'm starting to really like like I'll dip my biscuit roll in potatoes.
SPEAKER_00Oh, you're a you're a sopper now. Yeah, I've really grown up, guys. I anytime I do like pan sauces and stuff, I have to get good bread because the world's greatest pleasure is sopping up that stuff off your plate with your good old crusty bread.
SPEAKER_02The world's greatest. I will say, when we did our video shoot, you made stuffing that was so good. I think you made it at Friends Thanksgiving last year, too. I did, yeah. At Friendsgiving. It was so good. Um I I really like stuffing. I don't want to know what I mean. I know what's in it, but don't tell people.
SPEAKER_00So I really good. And I you know, it it's something my grand and I made together as her recipe. We kind of my my aunts, my mother, my idiot cousins, all are stovetop people. Hey, stovetop's good too. And they don't know what's good for 'em.
SPEAKER_02And so my grandma and I sat in our corner and ate our wheel made with with Do you do two traditional meals with cericide in your side?
SPEAKER_00Or yeah, we we got up to like three or four one year. What? Why? Because we're having some like generational transitional challenges of like, hey, you know, I know you've always done this, but But Bridget, you can't have your green bean casserole no one eats it. We have our own family now, and so we have to do our own thing.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah. I just haven't gotten there with Thanksgiving. I'm gonna let other people cook it. We've we've Oh okay. Last food question for Thanksgiving. Very important fight out there. Jellied cranberries or real cranberries.
SPEAKER_00I like both, actually.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so does Tyler.
SPEAKER_00I like both.
SPEAKER_02I think he actually is like the one if we don't have jellied cranberries. He gets really mad. And my grandma used to love it, so we always have it regardless, just so like grandma D's at the table with us.
SPEAKER_00My grandma has a really good, had a really good uh cranberry sauce one, too, that we ate, but I also like the jellied ones.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because they're easier to get like so the the real stuff is better on your leftover sandwich. Okay. So like you do your sandwich, the roll, and then uh it's really good on top of the uh turkey. Okay. It's like it sticks really good.
SPEAKER_02I've done that day after, yeah.
SPEAKER_00And the jellied stuff is good like day of when everything else is warm.
SPEAKER_01So good.
SPEAKER_00So yeah, this year I'm debating if I'm gonna like part. So I have like a very large turkey on order for me. Yep, same. And uh so I'm debating if I want to like part it up and cook it that way.
SPEAKER_02Wait, why'd you do large?
SPEAKER_00I I was like nervous and like loud of everything.
SPEAKER_02I was like, Nick's gonna yell at me because I got a large one because we like to have the leftovers. And actually, there's kind of a lot of us, even just in our bubble. There's like 10 of us. So, like, because Shannon's whole family, my family, and my parents have been in our bubble this whole time. We're not traveling, we're not doing anything crazy. But like both of my kids eat turkey and Shannon has you know, anyway. So we have a big one, and I was scared you were gonna yell at me.
SPEAKER_00I also am supposed to be recording how to make a Thanksgiving soup off your turkey carcass video. Oh so, like, which is one of my favorite things to do.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know about this.
SPEAKER_00So, one of the things I love about turkeys is like you get a gajillion meals out of it. And if if you're on financially hard times, buying frozen turkeys is like the most economical way to feed your family some really tasty meals that are nutritious, healthy, and um different. Like you can, because you can part them out and like the dark meat's definitely different than the white meat. Which one do you use in the soup? Darker? Uh I use the entire carcass and just like because you get a shocking amount of meat off that you thought you cleaned. You will get a shocking amount of meat off. The broth is so good. Maybe you can just make it for meat. Like the uh the dark meat's great in like a castle with beans, the breast, obviously, you can use for like you know, all sorts of things. The wings you can so it's a really great the wing meat's garbage. Let's be honest. The wing meat's just garbage. Okay, recipe coming soon. It's garbage. Give it, dude. Use it for gravy. That's it.
SPEAKER_02Um I don't have a pet, nor do I pay attention to these things, so I apologize. But if you do have a pet somewhere floating around the internet, there's some kind of like what's safe to give your pet and what's safe. Don't give him turkey bones. Yeah, I was like really surprised by it. So I didn't share it because I don't have a pet and people would think, but you should look it up if you have a dog and you're not.
SPEAKER_00Would you rather give Elliot a dog? No. Or have to hold a snake for two minutes? Oh my god, that's a horrible question. I'd rather give him a dog.
SPEAKER_02I can't with snakes. Um, I think I talked about this previously because I'm gonna get right off the snake discussion. Um, did I talk about Elliot like gnawing on a turkey leg? I think I did a week or two ago. So good. But my aunt Jenny um sent me the picture. She just must have popped up on her memories, you know, and she sent it to me and was like, oh, you know, wish we could all get together. And I'm like, I just talked about this on my podcast. And it he just looks, he's like seven months old or something, and just like seven, maybe eight months old, gnawing on this turkey leg. And he looks so tired because he is, and whatever. Good memory. Love that memory.
SPEAKER_00All right. That brings us to Kid Connor.
SPEAKER_02Wasn't sure if we were gonna do it. Heck yeah. It really caught me off guard. Just kidding, I have something planned because I'm a planner.
SPEAKER_00I'm usually a planner. I have a lot going on in my life right now.
SPEAKER_02Um, then I'm gonna start. Go ahead. So we did this cool event with our friends at Simple. Um, usually uh Nick and I do a Friendsgiving every year. And so before we met each other and knew each other, really, we did it in our previous lives. And then as we've become friends, we we all did it last year. There was like eight, I don't know, sixteen of us? But like a lot of us. It was so nice. Three tables. Yeah, it was like a T-shaped table in my life.
SPEAKER_00We did a really nice job with how you arranged everything.
SPEAKER_02Thanks, man. You're welcome. Um, yeah, it was beautiful, it was so fun. With the new space, did you account for for Friendsgiving? I don't know. Are we ever gonna get together in a group of 16 again? Um so anyway, we really miss Friendsgiving and we thought there must be people out there that might also feel the same way. So we did this event that was like a ready-to-go meal. You could just pick it up and heat it, whether you do a small Friendsgiving or you just like need a break from all the planning of Thanksgiving next week. And we did a drive-thru meal pickup, and as part of it, uh, you could bring food to donate to the food pantry. And so we thought, oh, okay, like people will bring a jar or two. And my son Elliot really wanted to help at the event. So great, I had to work a night away again. So it was like, hey, it's nice if I can involve him. So he came and helped us, and we had to give him a task so he wasn't in the way. And he got the task of like putting the food donations into the um bucket from the Walworth County food pantry, and he would get so excited. And I have to say, we got an over like not overwhelming, we got an incredible amount of donations, I think, for the number of people that picked up meals and how many donations we got. So if you were one of those people that picked up a meal, thank you. We got so many great donations. Um, so anyway, my kid corner is just all about like, I know we're gonna get all cheese. Thanksgiving week here, but it was really cool to see how excited Elliot got. Every time he got food, he was like, Look, oh my gosh! And he would take every bag out and put it in the big box. He was like, Look at all these noodles, or whatever.
SPEAKER_00And I liked how he's like, Hey mom, can we cook these? Which is like a very understandable thing for me. And you did an awesome parenting job. Props to you. You're very patient with the four-year-old, five-year-old, and explaining through the whole, like, yeah, no, this is for people that you know don't also did a really good job with that. You handled that really well.
SPEAKER_02It's one of those things that he's at that age where, you know, and it's that season. So we are obviously very much trying to like parents talk about like seeing the magic of the season through their kids' eyes. And this was one of those times that was like, we get caught up in how busy it is at the store right now and how crazy our lives are right now. And like Elliot's. How much wine we want to drink? Yeah. He sees this really cool, like, he's understanding donation, and people who are less fortunate were working on that with him. So, like, this was one of those moments that you're like, this was really cool to see this through your eyes, and how excited you are about canned jars of peanut butter, you know, whatever.
SPEAKER_00So, anyway, it was really fun. I agree. He did a great job. Thanks, man. You're welcome. Cool, cool. Mine is a continuation on from last week's story about how Simona loves me so much. Oh, I thought it was the millipede one because we need an update on that. Millipedes have been vanquished. She uh now enjoys running to the window. Not like, well, she her mom holds her hand as she runs. Uh, my car coming across the field and going because I can drive from work to our house. And she stands at the window and bangs at it and goes, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad as I come home and smiles and is very excited. I had to go play peekaboo with her through the windows outside. And it's very fun, and it's just so nice to have her smiley face. So don't have kids, it's the worst, but also They're the best. They're the best. The other day, in fact, I drove. Uh Sarah said they're looking out the back window for me, so I said, okay. And my car was parked so that I could just drive straight across the field. Oh my god. So I motored straight across the field, through the weeds, right up to the door, and I could see her like getting bigger and bigger and bigger, and she's had the biggest smile. That is the best. And uh I was told, don't drive through the weeds, you might break your car. And I said, But Simona thought it was funny. But my one-year-old loves me more. Did it for the lols.
SPEAKER_02That's the best part of the day. Doing it for the lols? Yeah, the lulls. Of course. Just like the Graham. Okay, we're too old for that.
SPEAKER_00But yes. Uh so Simona, baby girl, you'll always be my.
SPEAKER_02I can't wait until she starts listening to this when she's 30, and podcasts maybe aren't a thing anymore. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00O be a different technology. It like goes straight to your head.
SPEAKER_02Look, my dad used to talk about me on this thing called a podcast. He used to say he loved me. Okay, guys, we always want to hear from you, and I really want to know about your Thanksgiving tradition.
SPEAKER_00This week, uh, please make sure to write and tell us about yours. Yeah. Uh, something else to keep in mind. We do have our 50th episode coming up really soon. We're gonna have some sort of uh special thing. Celebration. Yes. So if you're a little bit behind on episodes, catch up so you can enter whatever fun things we're gonna do and be a part of that. I'm talking to you, Ron Henning Pell.
SPEAKER_02Um Ron, you're three episodes behind.
SPEAKER_00So thank you so much for listening. Please make sure you tell us your Thanksgiving stuff. We wanted to have just a little bit more free form. Well, I did. Maybe she didn't. I can't handle it.
