La la la la la Do you like my singing? Okay, I think my levels sound perfectly lovely.
SPEAKER_00On that note, let's play some real music. Hey! Hello, everybody. Welcome to another edition of Dinner Plus Drinks. I hope you didn't click off after five seconds.
SPEAKER_02I hope you enjoyed that. My tuning of my voice.
SPEAKER_00So we're in a weird weather situation, I would say, where it's been hot, now it's cold, but it's not really cold, but it feels cold.
SPEAKER_02How Wisconsin are we? We're back to talking about the weather.
SPEAKER_00We were talking about this with the sailing mail at work. It's like, uh, we've talked about the weather a lot. I'm like, well, it is Wisconsin. Yes, and it's weird. So I wasn't sure what to make for a drink because seasonal. We haven't done wine in a while, and I was thinking, you know, wine would be good. But then I was like, no, it's not wine weather for Bridget because it's too cold to be white wine weather. Well, it's freezing down here. It's too warm, too cold, too warm for it to be red wine weather. What do we do? So I thought beer. Now I know it's not your biggest thing in the world, so I thought we would try some Belgian beers.
SPEAKER_02Nick, this is beer season. I 100% love beer in May because it's like hot and humid or maybe 16 raining.
SPEAKER_00So I brought two beers from Delirium, their lighter beer and their darker beer. Yeah. And they're Belgian ales. So they got a little white wine type of thing to them of how they're made. And we could see what you think. And it's it's a moderate beverage. It's not the lightest, it's not the heaviest.
SPEAKER_02I'm very familiar with this light blue canned one. I don't know why, but like it is just familiar to me with what it has a pink elephant. I was like, is it an elephant? It's very cute. I didn't know there was a dark version of it, really. There is. They also have a Christmas beer. That looks light.
unknownIt is.
SPEAKER_02Almost dropped that on my laptop. That would have been good. Well, you need a new one anyway. Yeah, I do. It's time. That's the universe saying, hey. Hey, Bridget. I mean, actually, this one's functioning perfectly fine. But the battery does go more quickly.
SPEAKER_00Cheers.
SPEAKER_02Cheers. Happy Friday. Interesting. Good. Refreshing.
SPEAKER_00Like banana chlorine.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I was like, what am I tasting? It's you know, a little caramel sweetness. It's unique. It's Belgian. I don't know, man. What other give me another Belgian beer?
SPEAKER_00Um, triple caramelite. No. No. Um Cezanne DuPont. Okay. So maybe I've never had Belgian beer? See, that's what I was thinking. I was like, so maybe I've never had this. Very popular at Cafe Hollander, your favorite spot. I know. Um yeah. Definitely not going to be on the list of Milwaukee recommendations. Okay. They have good beer. Period. They have excellent beer.
SPEAKER_02I did go to their sister restaurant recently and had great food, so I'll give it another shot.
SPEAKER_00Delirium also makes Delirium Noel, which is a Christmas beer. Oh, that sounds nice. Is it spicy, I imagine? It is.
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, this is banana. That's where you hit it. That's weird.
SPEAKER_00So a lot of wheat uh goes into this beer, kind of like a wheat beer. Uh but then also kind of like one. Uh they do a little different yeast fermentation style and gives it more of the aromatics and some of that like, you know, little touch of tartness on the back.
SPEAKER_02I need to say that I don't want to have scared anyone away by saying banana because normally I would say, all right, I'm never gonna try it. But I keep going back. So it's delicious and refreshing.
SPEAKER_00I I am just puzzled by it, but it's great. This is one of my favorite beers. And it comes in a convenient can that is, you know.
SPEAKER_02Don't they make do they make a um bottle like the Nuclerus Raspberry Tart one?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they sell these in 750s as well.
SPEAKER_02It looks like concrete kind of like stone. Is it kind of beige colored?
unknownMaybe.
SPEAKER_02I gotta look. This is what I'm thinking of. Is this a high proof?
SPEAKER_00Well uh depends on what your definition of high proof is. This is the can't the like bottle I'm thinking of. It looks like it's 8.5%. So that's you know, higher.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Anyway.
SPEAKER_02Check it out. Pink elephant is what I'm gonna say.
SPEAKER_00And it was famously elected the best beer in the world. Simona wants to come say hi.
SPEAKER_02Oh.
SPEAKER_00So let's see if she wants to come say.
SPEAKER_02See, it kind of looks like concretey. Yeah, so you're right. Okay. I just gave him the signal for phew, we made it down here just in time. Um, Simona is not at school today.
SPEAKER_00Let's try the other beer.
SPEAKER_02Let's have the other beer first. She might come down here. Oh, okay. She'll tell us why. Man, you finished beer faster than me. Sorry. Such a man thing.
SPEAKER_00So this one is delirium nocturnum, or is they advertise the darker side of delirium. And I I'm curious how you feel about this one because you like Columbia Bach from SIPE so much. We had that last week. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So good.
SPEAKER_00I just bought some for my home. And it's uh a great spring beer because it's got some darker flavors.
unknownThank you.
SPEAKER_00You're welcome. So this is, you know, a little darker malty wine.
SPEAKER_02I'm a little scared of this one, to be honest. Like for how much flavor was in that first one and it was a light beer, I liked it, but if this is like a meal in a cup, it's not gonna be my fave.
SPEAKER_00Somebody asked me recently, you know, it looks like you're losing weight. What's going on? I'm like, well, stress and liquid diet.
SPEAKER_02It's it's um mealy is not the term. When I say meal, I mean like a thick peanut butter tasting beer, you know. Um yeah. Oh, we have a visitor. Hi, Simona. Hi, baby girl, come here. What? You wanna come say hi? Come say hi! You wanna come by me or you're dead? You gonna come by me?
SPEAKER_00Oh, you wanna wear that?
SPEAKER_02Oh, do you want to see this?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you wanna wear the headphones? Oh, you're two?
SPEAKER_02She's two years old. You wanna come say hi?
SPEAKER_00Can I have a hug and you can take your nap? Oh, I love it.
SPEAKER_02This is gonna be the best segment right here, Sarah.
SPEAKER_00Can you say hello? Can you say have a good day?
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Have a good day. Thanks, Emma.
SPEAKER_02Bye bye.
unknownSee you later.
SPEAKER_02Bye, girlfriend.
SPEAKER_00So Simona's home today because she's been uh exposed to COVID. Yeah, we're still doing that, everybody. And uh, even though she is negative, she's had two at-home rapid tests that are negative and a no-joke PCR test that is uh negative. Uh she can't go back to daycare unless she wears a mask while she's eating and while she's sleeping. In addition to the case. And if she takes it off, you have to come home, come and get her. Yep. If she takes it off, I have to come get her.
SPEAKER_02Ooh, just had a flavorful sip. Um that was gonna be a a transition into how's your week been? My week has been how.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I thought maybe that was the case. We we did start strong with um we were up at three sheeps, my friend Kyle and and myself selling snacks, celebrating their 10-year anniversary. Uh when we got the tax that Simona has stay home for the next 10 days. And stupidly, they count the 10 days from when the other kid tests positive, not when the kid was exposed, and that's day zero. So it's actually like in our case, added two extra days, uh-huh. Which is like, well, if they were spreading it on on this day, wouldn't you anyway? The logic. The logic, there is none of it. Um, so that was great. But so I've been uh Sarah is it had a some work things she had to do, so I've been doing the stay-at-home dad thing, except I've also been working the job full-time because we have some very stressful staffing situations at work right now, and a very busy holiday called Memorial Day coming up.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So um this brought me back to 2020 when like the world imploded and we had our kids home, and I was like, oh yeah, you still have to work full time and have your kids home. And now nobody cares. Yeah, correct.
SPEAKER_00Like nobody cares. There's no accommodations, there's no like, oh yeah, this happens, it's okay. Yeah, there's no kindness left in this world, there's no understanding left in this world. And it's just there's none of it. There's none of it. So I I want to say it's been a blessing having this time to do special activities with Simona. We went swimming, we went to the zoo, we did some shopping things, we did some play things that we would have.
SPEAKER_02It was nice that you were able to get negative tests to do all those things. That is true. But way back when I was like, we couldn't do anything. It took eight days to get a test, and you're like, okay, well, that's our whole quarantine, so it didn't matter.
SPEAKER_00So, but I was like also very distracted by the amount of work I need to do. I've slept very little, and unlike the machine. It doesn't work for Nick. Uh it doesn't work for me. Uh, we had to shoot a video before this. And have you ever seen me so confused and devoid of ideas?
SPEAKER_02Nick, Nick, are you even listening? Yeah, I mean, I get it. It's we, I think probably have all been in this position now. Um, but you're right, no one cares anymore. I do blame it for the record on Mercury being in retrograde. And also last week was Friday the 13th. I think, didn't we? Or I was talking with someone like, did we survive Friday the 13th? And then yeah, and then someone's and then the next day you got the text. Yeah. And it was like, what the Yeah, life. Also, this formula shortage. Yeah we have to talk about it because it's insane. Like, well, we are both lucky to have kids that we don't have to worry about this. Um, you know, we've had kids and we've had to deal with breastfeeding and such and all the shame that comes with whether you breastfeed or not, uh, shove it, is what I have to say. Like, everyone knows the benefits of breastfeeding, and everyone knows themselves and what um works for their family. So, either way, kids need to eat. So, this is bonkers. Fed is the best. Fed is best. So, anyway, uh the world is still a swirling shitstorm. Uh, but you know, I had my wedding anniversary this week.
SPEAKER_00Yes, happy wedding anniversary to you, Tyler. Uh, I also saw that, you know, it's eight years. Eight years. And I said, you take that eight, you rotate it nine degrees, it's infinity. You're stuck. You're stuck. Also, this is how little sleep I've had. I was like, oh, this is a funny joke. And I'm like, no, it's not.
SPEAKER_02I had no idea what he was talking about. He's like, you take the eight, you rotate it. I'm like, oh, right, right. The tattoo that everyone used to have. Wasn't that cool for a while? Like people got that tattoo. Yeah. You have that. Cool.
SPEAKER_00I was never that cool. Uh I like it as a tramp stamp. Oh, jeez. Uh, because it's just, you know. Is that still do people get a friend?
SPEAKER_02It's a booty to infinity. Okay, Nick has not slept. Is that is that is that inappropriate to say, Oh, I think, you know, there there was some breaking news that I did not put on here that I feel like our loyal listeners would be mad if we did not mention is the the Milwaukee development. Oh, yes. You know, yeah, Milwaukee is turning into a pile of garbage where people are getting shot pretty regularly and everyone's blaming it on the Bucks watch parties. I disagree with that, but there was an entire year of Bucks watch parties a year ago, everybody. Uh, so yes, 17 people got shot the same night as a Bucks watch party, but that was one watch party. Maybe there's a bigger problem. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00The Kia boys. Anyway.
SPEAKER_02The um they just announced a new development uh on some land that Marquette owns, another concert venue, and Nick's fave soccer stadium. Bootball. Football stadium.
SPEAKER_00One of the things, if I won the lottery, I would definitely so MLS expansion is happening and it's real. Um, but also the like minor leagues, we're starting to have promotion and relegation in America where you can go up and down levels, and the minor leagues are really growing. And there's the second tier and third tier are some really um the quality is improving. Uh and much like minor league baseball, they're realizing it needs to be a good entertaining product. Oh, so five. I think Milwaukee really could host a good, I think we could host an M MLS team. Um, it's a hundred million dollar get-in now, which is, you know, how'd have to win a big lottery to have them $100 million? But there's some really cool stadiums. They're building smaller soccer-specific stadiums that people like. Um, so it's a great match going experience because in soccer you jump around and sing, and the crowd and the atmosphere is as much of a part of a game as the game itself. Um, it's I know this is Wisconsin and drinking culture is part of what we do, but the beer is a flowing, and I think we could just do an incredible thing. And I'm just I've never understood why nobody took a stab at this, and so it's really cool to see.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I hadn't heard much about this, but I know the area of Town it's in. Nick and I were like, oh, wait, let's figure this out. It needs it, it's great. Um, Franklin has done a really good job with the Milkman and their whole soul. I can't think of what league baseball that is, but it's very entertaining. Independent summer league. Okay, there you go. I know you know players get recruited a lot there. Uh so fun. We go every year multiple times a year. So this on the soccer level would be cool. I would take Elliot.
SPEAKER_00So and it doesn't seem like they have a team lined up yet, but that domino's gotta fall.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, maybe. I mean, they just announced this like right before we were about to record. So neither of us had it on our outline, but we had to mention it.
SPEAKER_00I have a news story. Uh I'll I know you have another one.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah, real excited about mine.
SPEAKER_00So mine one is from uh The Wire Cutter by New York Times, and it's how often you should wash your sheets and how you should really get them clean. Um I'm luckily married to a woman that loves cleaning more than anything. Yep. Uh including myself, but not Simona. Uh she is an incredible cleaner. She is so good about keeping our sheets clean because there's nothing better than that feeling of sleeping in a bed with clean sheets. So love you. You're the best, Sarah. That's great job, Sarah. One of the reasons I married you. Um you can wash our sheets. Thank you. Uh you're the best. Um, so they they outline, you know, the things that are, you know, your sheets collect skin flakes, an assignment of bodily fluids. I don't know what those would be, and oils. Bodily fluids. And there's stuff like dust, dust mites, and you know, pet hair if you have that. Um they they recommend once a week for sanitary reasons, treat stains before washing. Again, I don't know what this could possibly be, what type of stains. Uh wash with low temperatures. They say the best way to maintain good-looking sheets is to wash them in low temperature cycles. Cold water's ideal.
SPEAKER_02To make the sheets look nice but not get clean.
SPEAKER_00Uh, and then, you know, they avoid using fabric softeners, dry on low. So we're gonna link to this if you want to uh figure out clean your sheets. The best ways. Uh, there's also a book they link to in here called Laundry. That's like a Bible of how to do laundry. Sarah, I know what you're getting for your birthday. Uh we have something coming up. No, we just had our anniversary. I was like, no, you don't. Um Father's Day. She'll get it for you. Yeah, I like that. That'll work. That'll work. Um yeah, they're yeah. Good. Uh they're a big fan of OxyClean, you know, just leave it to penetrate overnight. Okay, I love OxyClean. I would have not used the phrase leave it to penetrate overnight in an article about how to clean bodily fluid stains out of.
SPEAKER_02I have a much more wholesome article to share with you. This is about cleaning sheets. I mean, maybe I should have saved this for a product rec, but I haven't used it personally yet, so I cannot recommend, even though I know it will be great. So um Elliot started getting into Legos last year. Lego. I'm sorry, yes, you're right.
SPEAKER_00You're right. Lego. Um I'm trying to get this right because I have a acquaintance from college that's a Lego master builder. Okay, that is fascinating. And uh he's he's kind of a big nerd. Uh yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And uh that's a that is a thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, he he he he constantly is on that. I'm like, I just don't want Clint to like have an opportunity to tell me I'm wrong about something. So sorry, Clint.
SPEAKER_02Um anyway, so I love building Lego kits with Elliot. They bought me uh the Friends TV show set. Doing it. Elliot and Tyler got me that for Christmas last year, and we had so much fun building it, but it's to the point where I'm like, I do it after Elliot's in bed so I can do it on my own. It's so much fun. It's so fun. And I find it very hard, unsurprisingly, to check out completely. I'm always doing a hundred things at one time. So Lego makes you just do the one thing. So anyway, I also cannot keep plants live. No joke, I've killed a succulent. Yes, I overwatered it and I killed a succulent, which are like unkillable. Yeah, impressive. Well, I did it. So Lego is coming out with a botanical collection. So it has flowers, succulents, bonsai trees, etc. etc. And they're like, they say they're elaborate sets. You have potted flowers, there's a white orchid, there's a um bird of paradise, there's a it's a 756-piece flower bouquet. Like, I'm sorry. And no water required. It says, like, you know, display it in a real vase. So I'm gonna need to get my hands on this. I'm just saying it's maybe probably the only flowers I'm ever going to keep alive. You prices range from $10 for a few flowers up to $100 for the largest pot as plant potted plants. With honestly, like $100 is not that much for Lego. Like, if that's the highest this goes, sweet. So I need to give myself some.
SPEAKER_00It's different. I know. I know this is the one thing we're like. You know, I love a deal. I know, I know it's like it's it's different. It doesn't the tolerances are just it's it's different.
SPEAKER_02And you cannot mix and match them. Like Lego has thought of everything. When you get the kit, you're like, oh, it's just wonderful. And I recently went to a Lego thing, the one they had at the Abbey not so long ago, and talked to a couple of master builder guys, and they told us, because I've said, why do we have like some kits have extra of certain pieces? And he's like, because they don't count each piece, they weigh it. Yep. So, like, you know, the tiniest little pieces, you might have a couple extra because they just weigh it, which uh makes sense. Anyway, I could talk about Lego forever.
SPEAKER_00I saw the um they had that did you see the Titanic one there that the guys made? Yes. With Jack and Rose. Oh. And she had a thing coming up from that said, never let go! It's so good. Uh also, did you know what a heartbroken Lego minifig says to another minifig? I can't imagine. I'm falling to pieces. Oh. Well, thanks for that, Nick. Um what do you do to someone that doesn't like your Lego jokes? Uh what? You block them. I feel like we've got a few more of these, don't we? What did uh the little battery yell when it stood on some Lego?
unknownWhat? Ah!
SPEAKER_00A.
SPEAKER_02I'm like, It's funnier when it's written down. It's funnier when you can see it.
SPEAKER_00Knock knock.
SPEAKER_02Who's there? Iguana. Iguana who? Iguana play with Lego bricks all day. You guys sad news. It looks like a lot of these flower ones are already on back order. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Get them while they're hot, everybody. What do you get if you cross a snake in a Lego set? What? A boa constructor. Oh, I like that one. Bye bye.
SPEAKER_02Taking a break, guys.
SPEAKER_00We are distracted by researching Lego. Uh, these things are all sold out. I know. After accepting back orders.
SPEAKER_02It's a lot of back order. There's a couple. The flower bouquet is only $50, you guys. My birthday's in September.
SPEAKER_00I feel like this is a flowers are expensive. I mean, this is, I feel like, a good value. See? It's a great value. You only have to buy it once. You know, it's it's like the guy that can afford the $100 boots versus the person that can afford $20 boots.
SPEAKER_02Bro, the Lego, Lego, oh my God. The Lego Titanic is $630. We are distracted. Uh let's bring it back here for you. Where do I Lego? No. We're gonna tell you about some other products as if we haven't been telling you about all the Lego products. I don't, I want the basic succulents, but they're out of stock. Okay, I gotta tell you about a product for summer. Because, you know, we're almost at the official kickoff of summer, as they say. Uh last year, maybe around this time, I told you about Supergoop, which is like a very influencer brand, expensive, um, like really light SPF, but like tinted moisturizer. So it's very light coverage for summer, SPF, which is great, but it's pretty pricey. It's great, it's awesome. But I always am looking for a deal. So I have discovered Neutrogena Invisible Daily Defense, which is like 13 bucks as opposed to like 40. So huge difference. Bigger container works almost just as well. No, it's sunscreen and concealer. So it's like a um, yes, it's sunscreen. Because when I read this, I thought it was deodorant. Oh no, because it's daily defense. It's I was like, no, I mean, hey, this is about sharing. It's okay. To put sunscreen on your face specifically for aging if you're worried about it. So yeah, there's a there's um what I'm finding is people who care much more about their makeup than me uh change their concealers throughout like their foundation throughout the year. So in the winter, it's a much thicker, heavier thing. And I'm just not one to like walk into a room and someone can say, Oh, I could peel the makeup off your face. Well, there are a lot of people that like that. So very full coverage makeups are not always ideal in the summer months. So people like to use these for light coverage. If you're just bopping around in your beautiful summer dress, you have SPF and a very light tinted moisturizer or foundation. Aren't you interested in that?
SPEAKER_00I mean, I've been told I should use that sometimes. Well, you could just use an SPF, probably.
SPEAKER_02So you don't need you probably don't need women don't need the concealer, but I'm just saying they feel like they have to put makeup on. This is a great option.
SPEAKER_00I am recommending something very diametrically opposite. Yes. Uh a cyber power five-foot USB A, USB-C two outlet, surge protector. And I'm from Mars. Qui charging. I think it's how you say Qui charging, the wireless charge. I have one for my office at work, one for my office at home. It comes with, you can plug uh any types of USBs into it for your devices. Wireless charging and fast wireless charging. So if your you know phone does wireless charging, which I think everybody's phone does now, you can just put it on top of it. And it's just bluetooth. Is it Bluetooth enabled?
SPEAKER_02No, it's called Qui. No, no, no. I'm saying wireless charging. Don't you just have to Okay.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, go on. Nope, it's a specific standard thing. Okay. And then like a normal outlet, too. And it's a nice little brick that's very useful. And I use it for all sorts of things. And it's like very, very good.
SPEAKER_02I can't figure out the difference between what makes a good or a bad wireless charger. I think the amount of money you spend.
SPEAKER_00I know, but that's what you're doing. Right. And I think if you spend too little, it sucks. I think the like a brand that's made to I so this one's like a hardware brand, not a phone brand. Okay, that's good. So I think that because this thing charges fast. So I think like if you're buying like the you know hardware brand one, they're like, we we just sell like the best thing to do this. We don't need to like because like Apple or Samsung, they're like, we need to like remember how to like somehow get more money so they buy this again in a year. Whereas like the hardware people are like, you we buy our tools once. Like we we sell the tools once.
SPEAKER_02That was a very good answer.
SPEAKER_00So I think that's why. So like, yeah, this thing is great. It's like uh they actually make like surge protectors and extension cords and stuff. So they're into the electrical side of it, not the like we sell. I mean, Apple, like they sell a phone, but they're selling an operating system.
SPEAKER_02Yes, yes. They're selling something that breaks every year. We love you, Apple, but damn, you figured it out.
SPEAKER_00So if you want to have this incredible charger experience in your life, it'll declutter your desk, get rid of all the cables you need, check out this link, Home Depot.
SPEAKER_02I think it's time that we gather our thoughts and take a break.
SPEAKER_00We're back. And guys, it's time for more singing. Uh Reddit. Oh, good. More Reddit. So I was uh scrolling through the Reddits 17 days ago. 17 days ago, and I found a thread of what 100% fact is the hardest to believe. Open it up, I'm like, oh, I gotta save this for the pod. Oh, yeah. So I'm gonna read you, no, I'm gonna read you these facts and I want you to react. Oh, okay. I'm like, are you gonna make me say if it's true or false? I'm gonna be so bad at that. Facts number one. If a billion people each from both China and India didn't exist, they would still be the number one and number two most populated nations in the world. A billion? So two billion total. But separately. Yep. So a billion from China, a billion from India. There are still that many people there.
SPEAKER_02Holy shit. I have nothing else to say about that.
SPEAKER_00Tarantulas keep tiny frogs as pets. What? Yeah, evidently there's a bunch of people linking to this article that tarantula spiders have pet frogs.
SPEAKER_02I don't understand that. Because how big isn't a tarantula like the size of your fist kind of?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so it's a tiny frog.
SPEAKER_02What how small is the tiniest frog?
SPEAKER_00They're very tiny. Really? Yeah, it's all finally gonna be very tiny. An Australian man won the lottery, then on camera to reenact the winning for the local news, he bought another ticket.
SPEAKER_02And one again on camera. One again on camera. Dude, I hope they pay for that ticket for him. And then I'm sure they're in a legal battle.
SPEAKER_00Here is a terrifying one. Oh no. Only six people have survived rabies. Rabies has a 99.9999999% mortality rate. You can have rabies for an entire year without symptoms. And once you have symptoms, it's already late. You'll probably die in a couple days. Oh my god. What? And okay, how do you get rabies? I think you get bit by a dog.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Okay, but is that the only way you get rabies?
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_00Well, we better figure it out, Nick. Otherwise, we might die in a year. There is enough water in Lake Superior to cover North and South America in water one foot deep. Say it again. There's enough water in Lake Superior to cover North and South America in water one foot deep. Whoa. If you took it all out, you'd find the wreck of the admin kids Gerald. Lots of singing today. Lots of singing. Uh somebody commented here, they don't call it Lake Inferior. Oh, read it. Full of death, full of jokes. Very few mosquito species prefer human blood. But among those that do, only 5% are deadly to humans. Those 5%, though, kill more people annually than humans do. No, they don't. Yes, that's why everyone wants to put out the GMO mosquitoes. Because you could get rid of the mosquitoes that do malaria and West Nile and all that stuff, and the other mosquitoes would just fill in. So like birds would have enough birds bugs to eat, but we wouldn't have mosquitoes that kill humans.
SPEAKER_02But perhaps could birds eat other things? I am for the extinction of mosquitoes. I am as well.
SPEAKER_00Here's another insect uh related two more. Uh this was a thread of interesting facts about dragonflies. They accelerate at speeds that are up to four G's of force. Wow. And corner at forces of up to nine Gs of force. That's like supersonic jet fighter. I believe that. Dragonflies are miraculous. They are also the most efficient hunter, catching up to 95% of their prey. Uh-oh.
SPEAKER_02Are they gonna die if they kill off all the mosquitoes?
SPEAKER_00Well, we just need to kill the ones that eat humans. I just want to kill the ones that live in Wisconsin. So this one I thought was total BS. And somebody's pulling our chain, but no, President Jimmy Carter repelled into a nuclear reaction that was in partial meltdown to stop the meltdown and save the province of Ottawa. This was before he became president, but he literally did this.
SPEAKER_02I don't believe that either.
SPEAKER_00He literally did it. How do we know that? It's it's in Wikipedia.
SPEAKER_02It's on Reddit. That's how we know.
SPEAKER_00This one is bizarre. Bazaar. One-sixth of the world's living languages are only spoken in New Guinea.
SPEAKER_02That is bizarre.
SPEAKER_00So isn't New Guinea like the smallest? But it's a bunch of tall mountain ranges and dense jungles. So the tribe that's maybe a hundred feet away on the other side of the mountain.
SPEAKER_02So they can all understand each other.
SPEAKER_00I deep dive this one on Wikipedia. And so they're really like you can understand each other, but they are distinctly different.
SPEAKER_02Did you know that the maternity leave in the United States is the second worst in the world only to New Guinea?
SPEAKER_00Way to go, America.
SPEAKER_02Or at least that used to be true. I don't know if that's still true. It was when I had kids six years ago.
SPEAKER_00This is a true crime one. I'm sure you're not going to hear it on morbid or anything because it's a little too not good enough. In 1995, a man named MacArthur Wheeler, which what a name, robbed two banks at gunpoint. He was arrested mere hours later because he didn't wear a mask while doing the robbing. Instead, he decided to coat his face in lemon juice because he read that lemon juice can be used to make invisible ink. His logic was that it would make his face invisible. Also, reportedly he said to one of the tellers, Don't worry, I have a face. It's just invisible. Dude, how much meth was gone? The only thing he did when he's arrested was sigh dejectedly and say, But I wore the juice. Oh my god. This case is actually still in academic journals regarding the fact that people with low intelligence do in fact believe they're smarter than everyone else.
SPEAKER_02Yes, and there's there's like books, podcasts, everything on dumb criminals. That is that is fascinating.
SPEAKER_00From the time it was discovered to the time it lost its status as a planet, Pluto made it less than a third of the way around the sun.
SPEAKER_02Oh poor Pluto. Come on, it's still a planet out there almost on its own.
SPEAKER_00105 billion people have lived so far. 7.9 billion of us are currently alive. Whoa. So 7% of the species in history is alive today. And the best comment in this thread is it means that being bored, as best as we can tell right now, has led to death about 93% of the time. Which is suspiciously below 100%. That is, I guess. So you cannot say that being bored means you're gonna die because there's a lot of people that have been born and haven't died. Oh, that's a stretch, I'd say. This one made me think of you a lot. Oh god. Two-thirds of Canada's population lives south of Seattle.
SPEAKER_02Two-thirds Canada's population lives south.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Whoa. Toronto is in fact south of Portland. I'm like pulling it up on a map. Yeah, I can send you uh they have a visual that I can South of Portland? Really? Let me send you, let me send you.
SPEAKER_02I don't believe it. You guys, geography is not my oh, nope, don't get it.
SPEAKER_00Speaking of Portlet, one of Joseph Stalin's granddaughters is a hipster/slash punk lady who runs a record shop in Portland. I hate Portland.
SPEAKER_02Okay, this is interesting. I'm just looking at what you sent me. Canada, man. I mean, okay, whatever. We'll debate this off air.
SPEAKER_00Oxford University is older than the Aztec Empire. That I believe. It's very old. The Aztec Empire is very short-lived, and it's weird. Like when you when you rise to power by killing everybody and then sacrificing their children to blood gods, people don't like that.
SPEAKER_02Kind of feels like what Putin's doing. Oh, that's still happening.
SPEAKER_00Sutomo Yamaguchi was in Hiroshima on a business trip. On the day he was supposed to leave, the atomic bomb dropped. He survived with minor injuries and returned to his home in Nagasaki, where he went to work three days later. As he was describing his experience to his supervisor, the second bomb was dropped and he survived without any injuries. He ended up living into his 90s. I mean, people that are lucky are lucky, okay? A moose can dive underwater down to nearly 20 feet in search of food.
SPEAKER_02Could you imagine if you're just like swimming a lake and you're like underwater and then there's an Hey moose happy moose. I mean, honestly, that one really surprises me, but I've never thought about it.
SPEAKER_00Ciabatta bread was invented in 1982. It's advertised and perceived as this traditional rustic Italian bread that peasants must have enjoyed, but nope, created in the 1980s.
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't think I ever realized that. It doesn't strike me as one of the breads that's like a peasant bread, to be honest.
SPEAKER_00Dinosaurs are older than grass. Every artist redition you've seen of them roaming fields is wrong. Okay. Most ground level plants were ferns or flowering bushes, not grass.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02I mean, that's a that's a um, what's the word I'm looking for? That's like splitting hairs.
SPEAKER_00Clouds weigh hundreds of thousands of pounds full of water effortlessly floating above our heads. No support, no structure, just weight floating around above us, and yep, we're like totally believable because they're clouds. Duh.
SPEAKER_02Whoa. That one is boggling the mind.
SPEAKER_00The loudest sound recorded in history was the Krakatoa volcanic eruption of 1883. It ruptured the eardrums of people more than 40 miles away, created a sound wave that circled the globe seven times and could be heard all the way in New York City a short 10,000 miles away.
SPEAKER_02How did they track that?
SPEAKER_00They had seismographs and stuff back then. Oh let's see. A few more, a few more. My ears hurt thinking about that. It does too. It does. It took humans more time to go from bronze swords to steel swords than steel swords to nuclear bombs. Okay. So what are we gonna have soon? Steel swords again? Chainsaws were invented for childbirth and were hand cranked. Steel swords? Chainsaws. Oh, chainsaw. Oh! Ow!
SPEAKER_02Ow.
SPEAKER_00I just saw the male equivalent. What you did was the female equivalent of when someone says male is like, I got kicked in the nuts, and you're like, oh.
SPEAKER_02I know, I'm like, ow! Okay, okay.
SPEAKER_00The circulatory system, arteries, veins, and capillaries, is more than 60,000 miles long. Can't believe that. Manners were alive when the Great Pyramid was being built. Okay. What a time to be alive. Nintendo was founded the same year Hitler was born. Okay. Just take all the fun out of it, Nick. We got one more, one more, one more. This is a funny one. This isn't gonna be a lot. Library of Congress has a sex tape audio of JFK.
SPEAKER_02Oh, come on. Actually, I bet there's more than just JFK. Don't you think?
SPEAKER_00I mean This is unfortunate. Okay, this is we're gonna end with an uplifting one. Okay. There are more libraries in the United States than McDonald's or Starbucks. More libraries.
SPEAKER_02Okay, that is really nice to hear, and also I feel like that's a lie. Is that current?
SPEAKER_00No, that's current. Really? Here's some fun ones. Hagendahs has no meaning in any language. It was made up to sound European.
SPEAKER_02I loved that.
SPEAKER_00The 10th president of the United States, John Tyler, has a living grandson.
SPEAKER_02I'm sorry. Back to Haganda's. That just proves that marketing works. Everybody.
SPEAKER_00I was started by Reuben Mattis, a Polish immigrant to New York who sold fruit ice and ice cream from a horse-drawn car. Polish! That's even better. Okay, sorry. State of Wyoming only has two escalators. Oh okay, that's weird. Martin Luther King and Anne Frank were born in the same year, but we associate them with different time periods.
SPEAKER_02Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_006969 Cool Street, Weeds Sports, New York is actually a real address. Cool, who lives there? As of 2005, there were still about 300 women receiving survivors' pensions from the American Civil War. Good. Wow. Well deserved, I guess I would say. The closest U.S. state to Africa is Maine.
SPEAKER_02Okay. I mean, I'm not gonna fight any geography thing after the Portland thing you just showed me.
SPEAKER_00The entirety of continental South America is further east than Detroit, Michigan.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Is this because the world is spherical? Yes, this is why. Hawaiian pizza was invented in Canada. Okay. Just like Haganda's, my friends, made by a Polish man. Wow. It means nothing. Anyway. Um, I have a completely unrelated thing that means nothing, and I have to say it. You don't watch this as us, I assume. I do not. To Sarah? Uh, she does. Sarah, I hope you're caught up. No, I won't give away any spoilers if you're not caught up. But but it's ending this year. So I just watched I the final episode. Dan Fogelman, just high fives. You know, clearly he's probably listening to this podcast, so but it was so very clearly conceptualized from episode one all the way through to this last episode that there was so then I like went on a deep dive of all the Easter eggs like hidden through episodes, and it was just perfectly lovely, intertwined, and gut-wrenching, like it always is. That's all. If you want to talk about this is us people, hello at dinnerplusdrinks.com. I need someone to talk to about it.
SPEAKER_00That's there's some there's some more good ones here, but we'll be done.
SPEAKER_02We're done, everybody. Nick can link to that Reddit thread, right?
SPEAKER_00Also, the other one I saved was this picture of a guy with a tooth in his chin.
SPEAKER_02Ew. Like it was grown there?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Oh it's like teeth are weird. The weird, the like wrong way, like running left, right instead of up, down in the bottom of his chin. There's like a molar. No thanks. Thanks so much for that. He also has some weird other things going on. Uh, there's evidently a lot of dentists on Reddit because this thread was like an incredible amount of dentists like pointing out interesting things about this guy's teeth and correcting their technicians. Because like there are people like dental tech here, blah, blah, blah. And then like it was a parade of dentists be like, this is why you're a tech, not a dentist. Oh my god. Oh, okay. Because I do like that's the thing about dentists, right? We've had this discussion. You're like, I see my dentist for two minutes. I only see the like hygienist. Why am I and then like nurses and doctors? And then when there's something actually wrong, you're like, oh, this isn't even close. Because you're like, oh, you know, I think that and it's like, oh no, no, no, no. Oh no, no, no. Yeah, the the dentist, yes. The dentist, yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay. Well, I hope you guys like those weird or true, not weird necessarily facts.
SPEAKER_00It's like uh the weird food fest that Mobcraft had and got canceled for. What are you talking about? Mobcraft booming. Um they're opening a spot in Waterford near to us. So they used to do, they make some weird beers, right? Some like unusual flavor combinations. Yeah. Unusual. I guess that's racist too, if we say it's unusual. Because as we just learned, there's two billion people that could be eliminated from China and India, and they'd still be the biggest countries in the world. Um so they they would do some unusual flavor combinations and they had a weird food festival. And they called it that. Yep. Weird food and beer parents that we wouldn't normally think. And one of them they picked like they picked like pha. Something that was, but they did like a version of it that was like, and you know, stop Asian hate. They got canceled for it. So I don't think we can say any of this stuff's weird.
SPEAKER_02Oh, well, I'm about to talk about an egg roll. Heteronormative white male European-centric society. It's weird. Makes it awkward for me to tell you the best thing I ate this week, which was uh a dish called egg roll in a bowl. Um, there's a blogger called Lily Eats and Tells. Um actually, her website is Lily Loves Macros, which I didn't know. So like clearly she makes healthy food. That's great. A different influencer that I follow talks about this egg roll in a bowl all the time. It's exactly what it sounds like. An egg roll outside the wrapper in a bowl dish. And it's all like if you're counting your macros, you know, don't have this. If you're so it's very like diet-friendly, which is not something I'm doing. Regardless, it was ground chicken and a whole bunch of veggies and some delicious Asian flavors, and it was so good. And like made tons. So we had leftovers. The kids ate it. It had like a broccoli slaw in it, and Lucy. Um, what did she call it? I forget. Oh, she kept calling it noodles. And it was just like broccoli slaw with soy sauce and things, you know? Loved it, loved it. So we um the first day we had it as is. The second day we put it on rice because, you know, it says in the recipe, if you have room for carbs in your diet, put it on rice or add peanuts if you have extra fats. And we're like, we're gonna put all of it the carbs, the fat. So it's a super great dish. Um, I will put the link in the show notes for you if you want to make it.
SPEAKER_00I haven't been super up to date on the cooking this week because uh I've been life, yeah, working when I would normally cook dinner. Uh but we did get some wagyu beef, American Wagyu, not Japanese wagyu, um, which is Japanese is even better. But the American Wagyu we got is really good. And I just want to say uh it's expensive, and I'm not gonna like pretend like it's not expensive. But if if you like beef and a lot of people are cutting back the amount of beef they eat, which makes sense on a number of levels, price, diet, environment, etc. Etc. Whatever, you know, whatever. Uh, and you just buy a steak every two weeks, and it's a treat, you may as well buy wagu because it is effing delicious.
SPEAKER_02This is the treat.
SPEAKER_00It is so good, it is so much different than uh American beef breeds. Uh their breeds of cattle, there's actually four breeds of cattle that come from Japan that we all call wagu because you know Japanese words are hard. Wagyu just means cow. Oh, I was like, what does it mean? Oh so in what came to America is kind of a weird genetic thing, so we still crossed them so that it was a viable enough herd. Anyway, uh these cattle were like working cattle first. They weren't necessarily like grazing cattle to be food specifically, they were more or less oxen. Um, so the amount of uh fat they put in the muscles and how the muscles develop is very different and very tasty.
SPEAKER_02I had my first, well, no, I've had Wagyu before, it's been years, but we had a little bit. We were making a reel for the socials, and it was delicious.
SPEAKER_00And it was so easy to cook. Yeah, so I just like to say, you know, I was really good. It was delicious, I I do, I do like that.
SPEAKER_02Nick. I can't spoil what you have here. You have nothing on the outline. I know, nothing. You have nothing? I'm gonna come out with something. Okay, guys, it's time for kidder. But you've got nothing. You spent so much time with Simona this week.
SPEAKER_00I know, so it's hard to think of like one specific thing. I have like eight things on my list. So what what I'm gonna go with is so we went swimming on Tuesday afternoon and we swam for an hour. Uh like a solid hour in the pool, physically swimming, which, oh my god, was exhausting.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um she had a life preserver on everybody. Shut up. Um Lucy swims without one, everybody, but I'm in the pool with her. So she was fine. Well, she wants to swim by herself with like you know, and she can't quite figure out the floating by herself thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So it was very helpful. Also, it's hilarious because like eventually she would like start turtling and freaking out. With a life jacket, yeah. And then like she would then like start trudging water and be like, oh, this is fun. And then she'd get tired and then want to swim, and then I would pull her around. Anyway. It's exhausting. So, you know, the best parts were the uh endless pick me up and throw me into the pool data uh rounds of that. Yes. That was a lot of fun. It was a lot of fun. We were very tired at the end, and she was hungry. It was snack time. And I said, Okay, Simona, um, this particular place we went swimming has a really nice um snack bar, bar kind of thing. Like their lobby's really nice the way they have it done. Yeah. They have good coffee. So I was like, okay, we can go sit, and it's like pretty and open, like all the things she liked. I'm like, we can go sit there and have a special snack. And she goes, No, Dad Dad, I want my special snack from wine shop.
SPEAKER_02Uh-huh.
SPEAKER_00Back to the wine shop. We went to the wine shop where she could get she because this is bottle shop in Lake Geneva. Beth, the owner, usually gives her like the hundred percent apple juice. Apple juice.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, that's what Beth does for my kids.
SPEAKER_00That's like pure affine sugar, and I'm sure like when you're two, it tastes delicious. And we're like, no, no, we do not want her to have this. It does a lot of bad things. Unless she hasn't pooped for a week, then you know. But anyway, uh, so she we went to bottle shop and had some snacks, and uh she was very happy. She was very happy.
SPEAKER_02That sounds like a lovely day.
SPEAKER_00I just was like, okay, whatever you want.
SPEAKER_02Whatever. We'll go to the bottle shop in the middle of the day, honey, if you make me.
unknownIt's fine.
SPEAKER_02Whatever.
unknownFine.
SPEAKER_02Um, I it was the Elkhorn Flea Market. I saw this on the the gram. Yep. Yes. It was uh I had I had many other booger stories, but I can't keep track of them all, and I think I've told you them already.
SPEAKER_00Can I tell you a funny story? Sure. That's not related to kids, sure, but related to the flea market.
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_00There's another Nick that we know very well that runs a flea market. Yeah. And I went to Culver's last night to get some food. Yeah. And I see him pulling it. I'm like, oh, because now that our culverse has two drive-thru lanes.
SPEAKER_02Oh, yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And so I see him pulling around the other one. And I'm like, I think that's Nick. And that's other Nick. That's his that's his car. And there's a guy in like full camel running out. I'm like, that's that's him. Yeah. And then he so he pulls in front of me, like, and I was nice. I was like, I actually got my order done first, but you were here first, so you could go first. That type of thing. How Wisconsin. And uh so he leans out and waves.
SPEAKER_01I'm like, hey Nick! What up?
SPEAKER_00And he's like, oh hey Nick. So we then you know had a conversation, leaning out of our window. Hey Nick, hey Nick. And as he gets up to pay, it's taken too long. And I hear someone like, oh, I paid for his. And I'm like, oh no, he didn't turn. And turns out they charged him for mine. Oh no! Which was a uh shake and cheese curd, which is what Sarah and I split for dessert that night. And he had like a meal for his entire family. And so after he paid, he's like, Hold on a second. Wait, so he ended up paying for yours and his? Yep. On accident. Yeah, it was hilarious, but it's very Wisconsin, like very Wisconsin. It is. At Hulver's yelling to your friend across the, you know, hey Nick, here's your trees, Kurtz. And then I could hear him explain, like, oh, he's Nick too. We're both Nick's.
SPEAKER_02Oh my god. Okay. Okay.
SPEAKER_00He had been hunting the whole day, didn't get any turkeys. It's still hunting time. Oh, yeah, it's turkey hunting time. In May?
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
unknownWhat?
SPEAKER_00I'm not a hunter.
SPEAKER_02Anyway, Elcorn Flea Market. Elcorn Flea Market's the bum. It happens four times a year. Super amazing. Go. My advice would be don't go right at 7 a.m. because there's literal lines directly off the highway. And I went twice that day, once with Lucy, dreams, but then I went back without Lucy. Also dreams. Um, I went back at the end of the day and they were like, just take it. Just take this thing you wanted. And yes, I risked it, but I ended up buying a gift for Lucy. Um, I just risked it and they still had it, and it was this super cute vintage doll house, and she doesn't listen to podcasts, so she can't hear me. I don't know. She's pretty talented with the phone. I know. So, but anyway, so I had Lucy at the plea market with me, and she didn't give a shit, but she was a really good sport. And thrift, okay, it's not thrift shopping, but flea market shopping with my baby girl with soap. And we're cruising around, she's in the wagon, like the phone doesn't work because you can't barely get self-service out there to save your life, more or less YouTube. And so she was pouty and eating snacks. But then she saw Santa in one of the booths, and we're talking like a giant plastic yard Santa that I'm sure someone at the flea market charged $800 for. She lost her mind and had to get out because there was also a little mini Rudolph, very not to scale. But she got so excited, and I've got to think she's smart enough to know that wasn't a like a human being, but she had just seen Santa, the real, the real Santa, like a human being Santa downtown Lake Geneva the week before. Like, you know, there's a Santa that lives here year-round. Oh, yeah. So they saw him and he stopped their car. Tyler and Elliot and Lucy were downtown, and he stopped and talked to them and said, I'm just here checking up on you guys. Oh, so she's like at Santa on the brain. So then a week later, we're at the flea market, she sees the Santa thing. She made me stop the wagon. She had to get out of the booth. She went over and she just kept kissing it. And I was like, Oh god, there's like so many germs on this Santa. We should quarantine her. I know. She's probably got some kind of disease. She kept kissing it, and then we had to take a photo with it, and she was petting Rudolph and like, you just don't know the vendors. And I'm like, okay, are they mad that we're like touching it? So I kept trying to drag her, but it was the damn cutest thing. And I'm like, cool. If you just want to like search for Santa every time we come, that'll entertain her for hours.
SPEAKER_00I'm already planning her like wedding shower. Her wedding shower? It could be flea market themed, like get a space and have like different, you know, like instead of uh the stupid games you women play, you could have like prices right flea market games.
SPEAKER_02Uh we play prices right at my bridal shower.
SPEAKER_00It was great.
SPEAKER_02Also, I don't feel like Lucy's gonna grow up being a flea market hunter.
SPEAKER_00I think that's gonna be you, the thing you and her do.
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna drag her with me, let me be clear. She'll have fond memories until she hates me for it. Which will be like in a year. So, you know, whatever. That's fine. Keep buying her stuff, she'll love it. I did not buy her Santa. Lucy, if you come, you will get rewarded. You will get, I'm sure she asked me to buy the giant Santa. I didn't even ask how much it costs. And also, it was like as tall as me. It's pretty tall. It was a big Santa. Anyway, that's that.
SPEAKER_00Well, guys, we hope you enjoyed this uh episode. It was good to catch up with everyone. Completely spazzy episode. You're welcome. And uh I'm gonna go back to work and order some beer and some wine and do some stocking. And it's gonna be a great day. Yeah, because Memorial Day is in a week. It's gonna be awesome.
SPEAKER_02Memorial Day weekend is in a week. Yes, it's gonna be great. Okay, great. We hope you have a wonderful week ahead, and Mercury's gonna be out of retrograde starting June 3rd. Bye bye.
