Guys, it's time for another episode, and Bridget and I are like ready to go.
SPEAKER_01We're ready to go. It's another big day. What day is it?
SPEAKER_00It's my birthday.
SPEAKER_01You guys. As you're listening to this. Oh yeah, not as you're recording, so we're pretending because it's a reason to celebrate. Pretending's fun. So happy birthday. Thanks.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna open the beer right away.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, I mean, I think that we should have the beer to get the cheers and celebration started, right?
SPEAKER_00So you're a tea drinker, or is that Shannon or Brittany that's a tea drinker? Um I um of you is a tea drinker.
SPEAKER_01Britney is like the biggest tea drinker, but we all drink tea. Um, I'm a big peppermint tea person. I think it like started when I was pregnant.
SPEAKER_00It helps like ease your uh upset stomach. Well, you can still get some, you know, on the DL caffeine that way.
SPEAKER_01There's no caffeine in peppermint tea. What? Caffeine free, man. You can't come on. If I'm having caffeine when I'm pregnant, it is straight up black coffee.
SPEAKER_00You know there's more caffeine in the tea. Yeah, man, not peppermint tea. I didn't know there was no caffeine in peppermint tea. So this beer comes to us from Collective Arts, which is an art studio slash slash brewery. Whoa, where is this place? Well, they're in Ontario, but now they're brewing in Madison.
SPEAKER_01Cool!
SPEAKER_00Um, and this is an Earl Grey wheat tea. So it's wheat beer with Earl Grey tea.
SPEAKER_01Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_00I thought it was like just screaming Bridget.
SPEAKER_01Black tea, bergamot, cornflower petals, and coriander. I do love cornflower petals.
SPEAKER_00Usually we'd say we're holding the bottle up to the camera and you can look at it. It's actually a can, but also I forgot the camera today. So this episode will not be on YouTube.
SPEAKER_01So you can have a picture of the can.
SPEAKER_00And we're a little short on time this week, so the video editing time isn't quite there. Just been crazy. So, what do you what do you think of this?
SPEAKER_01Excuse me. Happy birthday, cheers! Cheers, cheers. Clink, which you can't hear because you know, we have plastic cups. Sorry. Mmm. Too bad this isn't on YouTube. Nick and I both had beer mustaches for a minute there.
SPEAKER_00Great strong beer mustaches.
SPEAKER_01This is a delicious wheat beer.
SPEAKER_00Is it not the greatest thing you've ever had?
SPEAKER_01I mean, greatest thing I've ever had. Wait, so is there caffeine in this? Because that'd be the greatest thing I've ever had.
SPEAKER_00You know the TTB FDAs got like really weird about caffeine and alcoholic beverages for some reason.
SPEAKER_01Actually, I I'm on board with that.
SPEAKER_00I'll never forget my fan lobe used to go to the bowling alley a lot and they mispriced vodka uh Red Bulls. Oh like So you almost bought it. They sold for like $3. So I was like, oh wait, I can get straight vodka and Red Bull. I'm a Red Bull drinker for $3 or like $4 for a minute of light. I know what I'm getting. Oh, sick. And I can do it in moderation. I just, you know, you're bowling, you're terrible at bowling. You want a drink. I love bowling.
SPEAKER_01It's like my secret trashy.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I enjoy it, but you know, I like it with the bumpers up. And and my grandma legitimately started crying. She's like, Nicholas, I saw in 60 minutes that the children are dying from these rod Red Bulls and vodkas.
SPEAKER_01Uppers and Downers, man. Yeah, it's great. I will never forget a rough evening I had in college or maybe right after college, and I blamed it all on Red Bull and vodka. I was like, I can't handle this upper and downer. I just need the straight downer, I guess.
SPEAKER_00There's a really cool festival called Uppers and Downers. That's a beer and coffee festival. Where? It's in Chicago. It's run by Good Beer Hunting. Um, Michael Kaiser, if you're listening, I've sent you like four emails trying to collaborate with you, and you haven't responded to any of them.
SPEAKER_01He's calling you out nicely.
SPEAKER_00I'm calling you out nicely.
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, uppers and downers. Obviously, it's not happening this year, but I just typed puppers into my computer instead of uppers.
SPEAKER_00I might like that search results better.
SPEAKER_01Puppers and downers. Well, guys, hopefully when we're having events again, you can hear me review my time at Uppers and Downers because that sounds delicious.
SPEAKER_00And you can get some delicious collective arts Earl Grey wheat beer.
SPEAKER_01Yep, we'll post a picture of this can and this is awesome. It's delicious, and I love the like brewery art studio collab.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Great.
SPEAKER_00It's like uh whatchamacallit, um, Story Hill BKC in Milwaukee. It's like seven things. It's great.
SPEAKER_01It's like it's like I've I've only eaten breakfast there. Is it many other things?
SPEAKER_00It's like a shop and they have like an art element and they have like a you know.
SPEAKER_01Okay, what'd you eat this week that you loved?
SPEAKER_00Well, no, no, no. Let's we're skipping ahead.
SPEAKER_01What? No food? Okay, it's been actually yeah, I appreciate that.
SPEAKER_00Let's talk about let's talk about this week because the guidance from the Department of Public Schools came out. I state of Wisconsin.
SPEAKER_01I am over it. So, guys, yeah, you're gonna hear about our little therapy again this week because this is real life and this is still happening. So, yeah, some like first half of this podcast is might be a little off the rails, but Corona's off the rail right now it's it's 9,000 people just tested positive in Florida in one day, and you're seeing stuff all over, like shutting back down, people getting retested or tested for the first time. And the thing that is getting me is is the schools. So, yeah, we got this like guideline, not guideline from the schools in Wisconsin that's like two days a week you go, two days a week you're off, Fridays are reserved for cleaning, there's some virtual, like whatever. It is crazy. It's 87 pages. I haven't read it all. But here's what I'm gonna rant about. So I saw this amazing article from NPR, um, what parents can learn from child care centers that stayed open during lockdowns. So if someone wants to write us a note and let me know the difference between schools and childcare centers, I'd like to hear it because my husband runs a childcare center, so I know the details intimately and they have been open.
SPEAKER_00So they've been doing a great job.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they've been doing a great job.
SPEAKER_00And you know how they did it? Limit contact.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and so space things out. Read this article, like we're we will post it. I'm sorry if you don't like NPR, ignore that that's the website, but read the article because it is it's talking about specifically in New York, which we all know that New York is struggling with coronavirus.
SPEAKER_00It's not just a lot of infections, it's a lot of deaths.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yes, absolutely. And so they specifically are talking to um this article is specifically talking to the YMCA, um, who deals with a lot of childcare centers, right? So we have a YMCA here that does it, but they're specifically talking about the Y cared for up to 40,000 children between the ages of one and 14 at over a thousand sites. So, like, this is a lot of data, okay? Data.
SPEAKER_00And what like Well, data is plural, datum is singular.
SPEAKER_01I just moved on because I thought you were gonna call me out on it. So I've zoomed right past my grammatical idea.
SPEAKER_00You have a point of datum and a lot of data.
SPEAKER_01Dadum.
SPEAKER_00Datum. Oh, it's Latin. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I like that. Well, I'm just gonna call data. Data? Okay, anyway, moving on. So I feel I am gonna just give you my views right here. I want my kids to go to school in the fall.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, they should 100% go to the school.
SPEAKER_01So, not not because I'm lazy and I don't want to parent them at home or teach them at home or learn how to juggle a full-time job and two kids at home. No, because the social aspect of school is vitally important. My four-year-old wore masks in the beginning. He did not touch people, he didn't, you know, but then we had to make the decision to send them back to daycare or not. And again, since my husband runs it, he's gonna be at work, he's gonna have the germs. We're sending our kids, okay? It has shaped my kid to who he is today. Like, yeah, I'm his parent, I helped, but daycare has made him who he is. He's he acts far above his age, he knows things that I certainly haven't taught him. So here's the thing like dead cows?
SPEAKER_00I taught him about that. I'll take credit for that one.
SPEAKER_01Nick taught him all about dead cows. I didn't do that, neither did daycare. So here's the thing. Everyone, like every business we've talked about, daycare's had to pivot too. So like they had to read the guidelines, the 90 pages, real quick, figure it out. So every week they're doing the same things everyone else's. So um, they this YMCA in this article refers to like, hey, they're just really following things from the CDC pretty closely. Like, you know, don't lick each other. Try to limit that as much as you can. And what they're finding is so there, there are almost no recorded cases of child to adult transmissions of COVID-19. And then we've all heard the data about um kid to kid, and you know, like, so I I just think this is worth reading. And like schools, I'm sorry, if you want to tell me that for eight hours on a Friday, you're gonna be cleaning all day. Every teacher, every administrator is gonna be there for eight hours cleaning, great, but that's not happening. When are these daycares cleaning?
SPEAKER_00Well, and the thing that makes me upset is it's so not with science. And it starts at the top. We have a president right now that wants to deny science. Sorry if that got political, but this is turned political. And the science is contact surfaces are not what's spreading it. You can tell me, oh, well, but this guy, yeah, okay. I'm not saying you're wrong, but I'm I'm not saying you're incorrect, I'm saying you're wrong. It is airborne and it is proximity and density in closed spaces. So, how about DPS instead of focusing about we're gonna go to school four days and close a day to sanitize every surface? Yeah, how about we focus on let's spread kids out?
SPEAKER_01Yes, and that's what this article is saying.
SPEAKER_00And the kid-to-kid transmission is low.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So, how about you know we want to protect teachers? Okay, let's how do we make sure teachers are, you know what you could do? You could put the teacher behind a barrier. You could, there's all these things.
SPEAKER_01But there's not a lot of cases of kid to adult.
SPEAKER_00There's all these things you can do.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's just it this again, this is saying, hey, we got creative, we used a gymnasium as a classroom because we could space. Why aren't they doing that? We used the playgrounds instead of.
SPEAKER_00And this is the Wisconsin Department of Public Schools is not doing this. And I'm gonna get political again. This is my problem with the education. I just splammed one side, I'm gonna slam the other side. The educational system in Wisconsin is not super imaginative.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's not because it's scared.
SPEAKER_00And take some responsibility, and when the person at the top of the ladder says, I'm not taking responsibility for this, you know what everybody else says? They don't take responsibility. Right. So there's all these restaurants right now that are having to close down because staff tested positive, and some close for two weeks, some close for a day. Why is it on individual businesses to do that? Why do I as a business owner have to decide if I'm gonna require masks or not? Why are we paying the salaries of the mayor of Lake Geneva, for instance, to make these decisions? And there's just no guy. And they just want to dodge responsibility.
SPEAKER_01So we're really struggling with this, if you guys can't tell. So it's been a really it's hit home. You know, everyone said in the beginning of this that, you know, you're gonna find someone you know that's gonna get this. And for a long time, I didn't have that. And so I was like, yeah, this is serious. I wear a mask everywhere I go, and mostly to make a point to the grown adults who won't wear it. And I I hadn't felt the reality of it until the last 24 hours, really. And so I feel really passionately about all this. Obviously, you can tell.
SPEAKER_00We had a vendor in yesterday that refused to wear a mask and was really mean about it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really?
SPEAKER_00And it's a long-term relationship. And what do we do? Do we say, hey man, you're being a total jerk. Yeah, and I would never so people sell packer brats, right? Yeah, and they're cheddar pepper brats. We sell a cheddar pepper brat and people say sell a cheddar pepper brot, sell a packer brat. You can just call it packer brat. I will never do that. And you know why? It's because Johnsonville paid a ton of money to be the official bratwurst of the Packers. True. And the Steyer family are nice people, and you know what they've done when I've said, like, hey guys, um, you know, we're buying this new equipment, and the equipment company said, Oh, you can go look at Johnsonville. And Johnsonville has been super kind to me. That's great. And why would I disrespect what their business did to pay all this money to be the official brat of the Packers in exchange for exclusive naming rights for the Packers, and then call my brat the Packer brat? Why would I do that? Yeah, it's not necessary. And it's just it's disrespectful. It's the you know, treat people the way you want to be treated. You wear a seatbelt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. You know, like I don't want to wear a mask, you guys. It's 90 degrees out. Like I'm breathing my own yuck. Whatever.
SPEAKER_00Surgeons wear, you know, if your surgeon came in to your surgery and didn't wear a mask, what would you say? Yeah. What would you say? Please put the mask on. They don't get hypoxia while they're, you know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's you know, it's funny, it I we're bombarded all the time, right? Like about with all these articles. So I have like piles of articles of things here, but these parents did this common sense camp to teach their kids basic life skills. Did you see this? So, like, you know, obviously parents are getting creative with with what they're doing. And like, I think this is a hilarious way to do it. You're teaching very serious things, common sense manners, and but they're having fun doing it, and therefore the kids are actually learning it. Saw the thing, thought it was hilarious. We should all go to common sense camp.
SPEAKER_00I agree. All right, enough about the sad things. Um, so Sunday was Father's Day. Yeah. It was my first Father's Day.
SPEAKER_01How was it?
SPEAKER_00And I want to talk about it. Um, so I'm gonna talk about it. You know, you know, you should wish people happy Father's Day and all these things and all this stuff. But you're like, ah, it's dumb. What then when you're a dad, you're like, oh my god. So I love when people say this to me. It wasn't even about that. It's like it wasn't about me, it's about my relationship with my daughter and how much I love my daughter. So I gotta go for a walk with Simona early in the morning. It was wonderful. I was waiting for my favorite bakery to open so I could get some croissants. Which is his other favorite thing. For my other favorite thing. And uh, I ran into your sister, Shannon, yes and your dad. Surprise! And their puppy. Shannon's puppy. Sister husband's puppy.
SPEAKER_01Their puppy.
SPEAKER_00And uh your sister's child. Yes, your sister and her husband's child. First up.
SPEAKER_01Thanks for clarifying all these details.
SPEAKER_00Clarify all these details. Uh, and then you guys showed up and it was great. And we just had like this lovely kid time.
SPEAKER_01It was so great.
SPEAKER_00And then the bakery was open, and I got croissant, and I got some iced tea. And let me tell you, simple bakery knows how to do iced tea. The problem that most people who make iced tea like from scratches is they make it too weak. Yep. Because when you make iced tea, guess what you put in it? Ice. Ice. And you know what ice does? Water it down. So they don't make it weak.
SPEAKER_01So, like, coffee drinkers feel that way about iced coffee.
SPEAKER_00Yes, it's the worst. Yeah. So um, gotta hang out with y'all. It was so lovely. I went on this like hour and 45-minute walk with my daughter, and nobody was downtown.
SPEAKER_01So I gotta do the perfect temperature.
SPEAKER_00So perfect. I gotta like push this the stroller next to me and tell her all my thoughts.
SPEAKER_01It's funny, Nick like walks alongside the stroller so we can talk to Simona.
SPEAKER_00I witnessed it. She's 10 months, eight months old. I'm rounding up. She's almost nine months now.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, my mom does this, she calls it womb year. She's like, You're 37. I'm like, what?
SPEAKER_01Oh, really? The extra year.
SPEAKER_00She's like, Well, you know, I wanted to have you for five years and you're in my womb for a year, and now you're 39. Okay. What? You just increased your age by a whole lot. So anyway, um, but that was that was lovely. That was so nice. And then I got a golf with my dad.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00Which was great.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you found a tea time. That's great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah, it's tough these days, I think. And then, you know, we put together some couches. More on that later. More on that. Pizza teas. And the best thing I ate this week wasn't necessarily like the quality of the food, but I had my dad over, we put these couches together, and we had some pizza and a beer. Oh. And that like whole like bro payoff of like, do this terrible thing that really sucks.
SPEAKER_01But I'll give you a case of pizza.
SPEAKER_00I'm gonna give you some beer and we're gonna have some pizza.
SPEAKER_01It's okay. When we first started this, I think we talked about probably like food and memories, and like, yeah, who cares? It's a frozen pizza, but it's the story and the feelings. So my food thing is kind of the same. Like, it's all because it's a tradition and it's like supports a good cause, you know, it's a feel-good food. Um, so I went to the pork chop cookout. Oh, obviously, it was virtual. This virtual, it was a drive-thru. Virtual pork.
SPEAKER_00Socially distance.
SPEAKER_01So it was only drive-thru, but it supports the fair, which like um generally I'm a huge supporter of this year. Is a different, you know, it's a challenge. They're having challenge some things that I don't necessarily agree with, but we love the fair and they're having a tough year, just like everybody else making these decisions. But they do this per chop cookout, and like this is the year. So when Elliot was two, this is where I learned that he loved pork.
SPEAKER_00So Elliot loves pork.
SPEAKER_01And I just like, I don't know, I just was scared to feed it to him or something. I don't know what it was, but he liked it.
SPEAKER_00Well, because it's theoretically an unclean animal.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I mean, that wasn't why. I don't know why. Pigs are very clear. I didn't grow up eating a lot of like pork chops, so I just didn't think to feed it to my kids.
SPEAKER_00I recently heard that you didn't eat a lot of steak either. The exact phrase was steak was not a thing in our house.
SPEAKER_01It and like my parents like it. We just didn't. I mean, same with seafood. Like my dad loves seafood, but we just like didn't grow up eating it. I don't know. What did you eat? Chicken, ground beef, like yeah, I don't know that. Um, but so anyway, it's where I first learned Elliot loved pork chops. And so this event, like when I didn't live in Lake Geneva, Shannon, Shannon lived back here before I did, and she talked about this event and like how lovely it was. And I'm like, this sounds weird. But I went and it is. It's just like you know all the people normally. So this year, drive-thru, they did a really good job. Like, we flew right through the line, delicious food stayed hot till we got home. It's multiple meals, like each kit comes with two pork chops. Anyway, so I loved it. Great feelings, delicious food. That's that.
SPEAKER_00So usually we do uh like news stories and stuff, but we don't have anything. I I actually I just had one so many things about the Nobel Prize winner. It was the dad who invented the knock-knock joke.
SPEAKER_01No, no, I'm gonna stop you right there. I'm gonna take a break. Okay, guys, we are back, and normally we'd roll right into product recommendations, but I need to brag a little bit right here.
SPEAKER_00About Tyler?
SPEAKER_01No, uh But he's so beautiful.
SPEAKER_00He's so beautiful, he's so tall.
SPEAKER_01I mean, uh, Tyler is so wonderful. We love Tyler. This one is about Britney. So uh this is my sister that lives um in Washington, and she does work uh. You like it because it rains there, right? Dude, I love the rain. We just had this conversation yesterday. Currently, it's not very rainy there in July and August. Um, but anyway, I just want to give her a quick shout out. Everyone's doing their jobs, working their butts off. But she works in uh policy and for the Nature Conservancy, and she was just very uh a very intricate part in getting a public lands bill. So it was um the Great American Outdoors Act. So you can Google that and get some great information, but it got passed through the Senate, so still has to get passed by the House and then signed by our president, and he said he would do it. So let's hope he still will. So, anyway, shout out to Britney. That's I'm gonna call it my news story and um no product rec from me, but I just wanted to say good job, Boo, and we'll post a link to a little more info on this if you care to read more. But Nick.
SPEAKER_00Great job, Brittany.
SPEAKER_01That's awesome. So it's really cool. So good job, Boo.
SPEAKER_00I've watched uh Schoolhouse Rock about how bills become laws once. So that's you know, should we post a link to that? That's hard.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so she's been working really hard um as you know, she's working from home getting this stuff done. So uh we'll post some info about that so you guys can educate yourselves. But I heard, Nick, that your couches finally came.
SPEAKER_00Yes, my couches finally came. We talked about this burrow. Um, and I'm gonna give you guys if you're looking for couches, I'm gonna give you the whole rundown. Tell us everything. Okay, so positives. So, you know, I think this whole thing that's happening has taught you be conscious with your money. Try and spend it with people that matter. Yep. That money is speech. The Supreme Court said that. So let's, you know, use that properly. So I would like to support more American businesses, I'd like to support sustainable things. Borough is in North Carolina, they use sustainable hardwoods, they don't put a bunch of crap in the um stuffy. Filler? Filler, yeah. What would you call it?
SPEAKER_01Filler? I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Huge bonus. That's worth some money to me. Sure. Okay, so these couches are let's call it a 20% premium over random made in China, whatever garbage. Okay. Maybe 15% over IKEA.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00So that meant a lot to me and to Sarah that we wanted to support American jobs, sustainable forestry, not destroying our environment. Sure. Big positive. Color. Beautiful color. Um, they are so beautiful. Very millennial the way it comes. The boxing and unboxing process is great. Um it seems like a great catch.
SPEAKER_01Should have done a YouTube unboxing like those kids do that are like making millions.
SPEAKER_00You know, I don't really like watching that. So yeah, because you're an adult. So here's the thing. When we got it together, there were some tolerances that were very tight, and we had to like bang on stuff to get it together. And it shouldn't have happened.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really?
SPEAKER_00Like, shouldn't have happened. It's all together, it's very solid. Yeah but Bridget, you sat on it and there was a creek. Yes. And because um one of the legs, depending on where you sit it on the sectional, is about a sixteenth of the inch off a ground. Oh. Because to get the thing together, like I had to like hammer it in. Yep. So you screwed something up, huh? Yep. And that was the tolerances on the couch. Um, not happy about that. They said it would ship immediately, and it took six weeks to ship. Took a while, and they were really good about the communication, and they discounted it. But you said it would ship immediately and it took six weeks. And a big part of why we bought it was because you wanted it right away.
SPEAKER_01I wanted to talk about it right away. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um so that was unfortunate. Big props on the customer service. Did great job, awesome communication, but also shipped a couch when you said you're gonna ship it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Did it was it like coronavirus related? Don't know. Don't know. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Still frustrating. Very frustrating. And then it arrived in two shipments. It was 16 boxes total.
SPEAKER_01So many you showed me a picture of all the boxes, and I was like, how many couches did you order?
SPEAKER_00And we only got 14 the first day. And you know, when you're looking at boxes, you're like, oh, 16, yeah. And we got the email that says your orders arrived. Yeah. And so we had it halfway together when we realized we're missing two boxes. Yeah. And I don't know if that's UPS's fault. I don't know if that's their fault. Uh looked like the two other boxes shipped from somewhere else.
SPEAKER_01Huh. That's interesting.
SPEAKER_00So like that was very not good. I did not expect this review to go this way. And so these are all like things that take it from like a five out of five, because the couch is great.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's beautiful.
SPEAKER_00Looks great, seems like it's super resistant to stains, tears, like it's such like a really modern sectional as opposed to like the big obnoxious fluffy one. And putting it together was moderately easy. They say, like, you know, dude that sits at home playing video games and has no muscles can do it. My dad and I had to like bind get it, because it was binding as you're putting these things together. So, like, how to get out the channel locks.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00And you know, to like get it where it could the tolerances were a little too tight. I feel like I really would have tried to tackle this.
SPEAKER_01I like insist on building all the IKEA furniture at my house.
SPEAKER_00Very solid, very nice, but it's like a three and a half out of five.
SPEAKER_01Hmm. So do you think that'll change once you sit on it for a while, or no, because this experience was not the greatest.
SPEAKER_00I think it might kick up to a four.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And you want to be so like I want to be really nice to these guys because it's American. They were great. I texted them and said, like, hey guys, are my two other boxes coming? They're like, oh, we looked up the UPS thing and it said it wasn't shipping. I was like, Yeah. You know, so I want to be nice to them because they were responsive, they were good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But that wasn't what I wanted to do.
SPEAKER_01I don't feel like that one would bother me that much because like you got it the next day, didn't you?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, at nine o'clock. And we had like a bunch of random stuff assembled. Don't send me the email that it's all delivered if it's not all delivered. Send me the email that says it's partly here.
SPEAKER_01It's almost all here. Like, okay, it's a product recommendation.
SPEAKER_00So my recommendation is it's a good product, but it's style and supporting American jobs matters more to you than it being like a super easy thing. And it's on the very edge of being a good value for all those things. Like it's on the very edge. Yeah. Where I don't I don't know if I'd say it's a good value.
SPEAKER_01Because it was so hard to put well, because of all the things.
SPEAKER_00It was yep.
SPEAKER_01Huh.
SPEAKER_00So um it's tricky. Yeah, so it's tricky to say. And I think, you know, if this lasts me 20 years, I will say four and a half out of five.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So check back in 20 years.
SPEAKER_00Check back in 20 years. That's my review on burrow couches. They look beautiful, they're very comfortable. Yeah. Um, I'm so happy to have them. The color is great. They were amazing on customer service. Yep. But it's like when a restaurant doesn't have its employees wear masks, doesn't do social distancing, and just lets anything happen, and then their employees test positive and they're like, oh hey, we're gonna close for a while, and people are like, oh, good job.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I can't say good job that you did not put out the fire.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, like you know because there are restaurants that have done everything correctly and are still having this challenge, which where do you think it's coming from?
SPEAKER_00So I to make that you know analogy complete, I think if they would have shipped it on time or it would have just gone together, I would give it a five out of five.
SPEAKER_01Okay. All right. Well that's it.
SPEAKER_00I would have forgiven one of those things.
SPEAKER_01Sure. I agree. The shipping thing, I'm gonna uh, you know, not being intimately evolved, involved here can give them a little grace because everything's been.
SPEAKER_00But that was the third thing. You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean there's yeah.
SPEAKER_00That was a third thing.
SPEAKER_01It's just happened to be that you were doing all this during coronavirus.
SPEAKER_00And you know, so like I get it. There's things we've been out of, and I've asked for grace. Yeah. But I also didn't say I guaranteed it available.
SPEAKER_01That's true.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so that's you know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01So that's those are the So we're just full of happy thoughts here, guys, okay?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so that wraps up let's let's wrap up the product recommendation.
SPEAKER_01No more product rec, but I'm gonna give you something to smile, okay? All right. I think if you were listening along, you may have heard how much I love Parks and Rec and how everyone should listen and watch Parks and Rec. But have you read or seen that someone took, like, there's um multiple town hall meetings in Parks and Rec, but someone took one of the um town hall meetings from Parks and Rec and uh edited it to include all of the real life meetings that people are coming like bitching about face masks, and it is freaking hilarious. So it's like only a minute and a half, right? But I laughed out loud, right? It's a one-minute mark. So if you watch it, we'll of course put the link up. Right around the one-minute mark, uh, Councilman Jam says checkmate, and you'll know what I'm talking about. And I laughed out loud. It is so funny. So, anyway, you need a good giggle, watch the parks and rack thing.
SPEAKER_00Time for our newest segment.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, which I'm loving. Interesting questions with Bridget and Nick. Would you rather?
SPEAKER_00All right, you got the would you rathers this week? Hit me.
SPEAKER_01All right, hit me. Okay, sorry, I almost just busted out in another song. All right, hit me, baby. Not that um, would you rather create history or delete it?
SPEAKER_00Well, Bridget, I'm creating history every day.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Nick. I mean, this was an easy one for me. I also would rather create history, but not because I think I'm doing it every day. Because I try not to like regret things, so I don't want to delete history. It all makes us who we are, right?
SPEAKER_00I'm definitely the dude with the tramp stamp that says no regrets.
SPEAKER_01No regrets. Yeah, you guys, Nick has a tramp stamp, did you know?
SPEAKER_00How many times have we made fun of tramp stamps?
SPEAKER_01I know I'm really sorry for any of you listening. But I think you like giant really understand, right? You get it.
SPEAKER_00You get it, yeah. Definitely create history. Like there's, I mean, obviously there's a lot of terrible things, but I'd like to think if I could just say like I could do something for the better, I would rather do that than I'm a look forward, not look back type of person. Good.
SPEAKER_01I'm glad we're on the same page with this because otherwise, I don't know, man. Okay, I I also because I wrote these ones, I chose these ones, I've thought long and hard about this. Oh God. Would you rather have no taste buds or be colorblind?
SPEAKER_00Oh, no, no question. I would rather be colorblind. Yeah. I mean, first of all, it'd be professionally terrible for me if I had no taste buds.
SPEAKER_01Nick would have no job, he'd be homeless, but he could see all the colors.
SPEAKER_00I can see all the colors. I mean, what was color matter? I mean, you do eat with your eyes first. Yeah, I think that But Bridget, that's a lovely red dress you have on today.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Nick's so wrong. You guys can't see us on YouTube, but I promise you it's not red. But isn't there like some weird percentage of guys that are actually like some faction of colorblind?
SPEAKER_00Probably, and they just never admit it because men are the worst.
SPEAKER_01No, my eighth grade teacher was colorblind, and he used to come to school and like be like, You guys, do I match today? And we're like, no, man, no. It was so funny. Um, I think that I might rather not have taste buds. I feel like it'd be really easy to diet.
SPEAKER_00Oh, because you'd never see the peonies.
SPEAKER_01You could like, yeah, the peonies, so many things. I just think it's very beautiful outside. Anyway, I think I don't want to be colorblind, okay?
SPEAKER_00Can you imagine? Could you imagine if Britney was colorblind and didn't love nature so much, that Bill would not have.
SPEAKER_01That Bill, see, okay. Whatever.
SPEAKER_00Thank God she's not colorblind.
SPEAKER_01This one's a toughie. Would you rather bleach your hair green for the rest of your life? And we're talking neon green. Neon green. Or have one eyelish. Yes, but like permanently. Or have one eyebrow.
SPEAKER_00I think have one eyebrow because you could do like the uh joker thing.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00Do you know why I have the smile?
SPEAKER_01Because I'm so creepy.
SPEAKER_00You know, and so you could be like, you know why I only have one eyebrow? Because when I was a child, a cat lit on fire, and I went to put it out with my face, and he burned off my eyebrow. Doesn't it? And then people be like, what? What? And then you go to the next person. You know why I only have one eyebrow? Because I lit my grill on fire and my baby tried to get on it, and I closed it and put it off in my eyebrow. So just, you know, like the Joker thing.
SPEAKER_01Um, doesn't the Joker also have like lime green hair? Right?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Right?
SPEAKER_01Like Heath Ledger Joker? Yes, yes, yes, yes. Well, I would want Rust and Pete, Heath Ledger. I mean, oh I Pete Man, Peef. Ruth and Peth. Um, I only want one eyebrow, but that's because like you could probably tattoo an eyebrow on. Oh. Or like makeup do it every day. That'd be a lot of worse.
SPEAKER_00Or you could tattoo no regrets.
SPEAKER_01No regrets on your eyebrow. Okay.
SPEAKER_00But like so dense. I really like an eyebrow.
SPEAKER_01I want to hear what you guys say with these wood, would you rathers?
SPEAKER_00So your eyebrows on point today.
SPEAKER_01You guys, Nick's just checking out my eyebrows. What if I I'm gonna put some makeup and cover on it.
SPEAKER_00Because now I'm trying to, yeah, I'm trying to like figure out like how ridiculous would you look. Yeah, you don't know. I mean, they're very like on point.
SPEAKER_01Brittany told me once that my eyebrows were uneven, and now every day I can't stop thinking about it. Don't look at them. Okay. I'm really glad we're not on YouTube this week. Which one does she say is uneven? I don't know. She just said her whole life she was having, she's like, I never realized, but then a friend told me my eyebrows were uneven, and so I'm just doing you a favor. I was like, oh my god, I can't stop seeing it now. I think they're even. Okay, okay, let's move on.
SPEAKER_00All right, moving on.
SPEAKER_01Yes, to food.
SPEAKER_00You put together a meal plan.
SPEAKER_01Yes, it's all this week.
SPEAKER_00It looks great. It looks great. I approve of it.
SPEAKER_01Oh, thank you so much.
SPEAKER_00Uh, I'm Nick Vorpagel and I approve of this meal plan.
SPEAKER_01I can't approve of Bridget's food.
SPEAKER_00Lots of good recipes on this one, but um there's one that I'm thinking you're gonna pick. What are you gonna pick?
SPEAKER_01Okay, okay. I was gonna not pick it because I knew you'd make fun of me, but obviously I'm choosing the chicken breasts. Well, it's not just chicken breast. It's spinach stuffed chicken breasts.
SPEAKER_00You know what you could do is you could use your mesculine from the um Oh, lettuce bowl?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, your lettuce bowl. I don't know. Spinach is like a power food man. So is mesculine because there's spinach in there. Mick it mix in that spinach with a whole bunch of cream and call it healthy, right? Because there's spinach in it.
SPEAKER_00Popeye? Yeah. All right, so I got a new Roku player for my television. You know, we've talked about the Roku players. Yep. And there's this uh what do they call it? Old People Cartoon Network. Seriously, yeah, it's great. And it's like all the Popeye cartoons and like all the old Superman cartoons, like all those cartoons where you're like, I like this. This was my childhood. I like can you imagine like chugging a can of spinach?
SPEAKER_01Well nothing slimier. So anyway, starting the week off with that, it's like warm and comforting. Yeah, you don't need that in the summer, but like listen, it's cold in the air conditioning, so that's what I want.
SPEAKER_00Well, if you want to do it in the summer, so you just slice it very thinly into like roulette. Oh wow, and then you have that little chicken stuffed spinach roulette, you put it on much better, you know, like a watercracker or a bagat or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Do you do you know my problem is that I follow recipes like 2AT? So if it doesn't say that in the recipe, Nick, I ain't thinking of it. Sorry, that was really terrible that I just said I ain't. But I like the pro tip now.
SPEAKER_00I'm okay with the I ain't. What do you love from the meal plan? Well, I'm very excited. Uh the reverse seared pork chop recipes on here and um I'm gonna preach a little bit. Preach! I'ma preach!
SPEAKER_01Fun of the preach, man. I love that song.
SPEAKER_00That's a good song. Yeah, not so good. So the reverse sear is the way to cook all of the things, especially like so you know, standard steak that we cut is like an inch, right? Yeah. Now you go to some, you know, run-of-the-milt grocery store, it might be three-quarters of an inch because it makes the price look lower. You're like, oh, their steak costs seven dollars, and Lake Stream Country meat steak costs ten dollars. Like, well, idiots, there's more meat. There's more meat, so it costs more money. Anyway, so let's say you like a nice thick, juicy cut of meat, inch and a half, two inches, something like that. Problem is that middle don't cook as fast as the outside. So you want to reverse sear it. Oh, so the standard you know way of cooking is like search sear in the oven.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
unknownWrong?
SPEAKER_00Wrong.
SPEAKER_01In the oven and then sear?
SPEAKER_00In the oven and then sear.
SPEAKER_01That's why they call it a reverse search. Whoa, it's crazy that I could guess that.
SPEAKER_00So, anyway, basically, grilling it's so easy. Set up your grill for two zone cooking. Oh, one side has no direct heat, one side has direct heat. Whoa. You put your meat over the non-direct, or as they say, indirect heat side. Let it come up to temperature. You know, you get to like 120-ish over indirect heat. Nothing really looks appetizing. It's all gray, but it's cooked evenly. Okay. Then you hit that direct heat when you got the flame, you got the things, the stuff, all the grilling, all the things. Boom, seer, boom, seer.
SPEAKER_01You guys, you should see how excited he is.
SPEAKER_00I also made some wagyu filets last week that I forgot about that were really good. Just whipped those up. Sous-veded them. Oh. I got the big green egg up to 800 degrees. Oh my god. Uh, put a cast iron skillet on it. It was literally 30 seconds inside of boom. Yeah, boom.
SPEAKER_01That sounds so funny.
SPEAKER_00My god, that seer, you know, just call me Iron Chef.
SPEAKER_01There's nothing. Okay, man. I want to see you on one of those cooking shows.
SPEAKER_00Well, we did one.
SPEAKER_01I love yeah, we did.
SPEAKER_00How many people yelled at me to run?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because don't you ever watch cooking shows? They run, man.
SPEAKER_00You know, running, especially when you're holding sharp objects, okay, is not a good idea.
SPEAKER_01Next time I'm gonna time you, and then you're you'll run. Oh, we did time you. I don't know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we had 30 minutes, and guess what? I got it done with like one half of a second to spare.
SPEAKER_01That's right. You're welcome.
SPEAKER_00I got it all on the plate.
SPEAKER_01That was a gross dish, man. Actually, you made it really good. It was a gross basket.
SPEAKER_00It was a gross basket. It was good. I got it on the plate.
SPEAKER_01Um, so the week ends in 4th of July on a Saturday. I mean, it doesn't end yet. So I think you can ask for nothing better for 4th of July. What's your go-to 4th of July dish? No, I knew you were gonna ask me that. So actually, usually I'm not home for 4th of July. Um, usually I'm traveling at my husband's cottage. So we just kind of like eat sandwiches in between time at the beach, and someone cooks like different couples cook a meal, you know. So it there's no normal because it it's like whatever couples in charge that night. But this year we're not actually gonna be at the cottage on 4th of July. So I am like, I asked, I called my parents and I was like, we are coming over and you make a s'mores? No, no, because that is that's not on theme. I said, we're having red, white, and blue food. We are like putting up all the decor. So, you know, strawberry, blueberry, parfait things. Like, I love a good themed party. So this will be a themed party. I don't have a lot of good red, white, and blue dishes, like main foods. So I'm gonna rely on you for that. Dessert appetizers and drinks, I've got, but I don't know. Main meals. We might just do brats.
SPEAKER_00I would do brats, yeah. Brisket. Yeah, barbecue is always good.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I just don't know.
SPEAKER_00Like, I is there like a steak's good?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but is there like a thing people always cook on Further Twitter? Brats. Brats, yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, not in anywhere other than like Wisconsin. Yeah, you're right. You know, Miller Park's the only stand that sells more bratwursts than ham than hot dogs.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really?
SPEAKER_00Like everyone's like 75, 25 hot dogs, and Miller Park's like 90-10.
SPEAKER_01Really? I mean, actually, I don't shouldn't be surprised by that.
SPEAKER_00It's such this like weirdo Wisconsin thing.
SPEAKER_01So brats. Yeah, we'll probably just do brats.
SPEAKER_00Just do brats. You know, you could do um apple brats, you could do mushroom Swiss brats and uh what's blue? What's blue? What's blue?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I see what you're doing here. Blue. What's we don't have a blue brat. Sorry, sorry, no blue brats, guys. I'll do cheddar pepper, it's my fave. There you go. Yeah. So let us know what you guys are making. Yeah, because obviously I need tips. I'm gonna make brats. I love I love brats. Blue ones. Actually, brat patties. Maybe I'll make brat patties. There you go.
SPEAKER_00All the fun of the brat where it's none of the snap.
SPEAKER_01I was listening to something the other day, and they were like talking all about the snap and how no meat is good meat unless it's snaps. And I was like, oh god. I mean, you're right, but no. So, anyway, guys, all right, you know what time it is. Kid Kona! So Nick talked about this a little bit earlier, but we had an awesome Father's Day, and um my sister and I were like, you know what? Like, let's let our husband sleep in a little and let's meet dad. So let's meet our dad down at the park. And um, you know, like Nick, our kids wake up at 5:30 in the morning. So we prefer to get down there. Um we prefer to get down there before like the rest of the insanity happens in downtown Lake Geneva. So we got down there early and um in phases, I picked up coffee for my dad, which was a treat of its own that day.
SPEAKER_00Um I know he complains about you a lot, but you're a good daughter.
SPEAKER_01I'm his favorite. So so anyway, we um had tons of fun. It was a beautiful morning, but there's this like little place that people I don't know if they're supposed to, but can drop in their kayaks and stuff by where we were. No, they're supposed to, yeah. Okay, I was like, I don't know, but so it's like a little plank, right? An angled plank. So we like That's why it says let our kids, I mean I figured, but I don't know. We let our kids just like walk off it and go in the lake. So um my dad took Lucy down there and she doesn't give a crap. Like she's fully clothed, dunking herself in the water, having the time of her life. Well, Elliot's right behind her in the water, and he's like, I gotta go to the bathroom. Like, well, uh we're like in the middle of a park, and I know a lot of people that work for the city. I'd rather you not like pull your pants down on a tree. So I'm like, you're doing it in the lake, man. So he he was like panicking, like couldn't get his shorts down because I think they had a button and it's Oh no! So I'm like, so I'm like trying to make sure Lucy doesn't fall in the water, but helping Elliot get his pants down, and he was so excited when he started peeing in the lake. He was like, I'm filling it up, mom! Look. So anyway, I have like this really ridiculous photo, and it's really just like Elliot's butt and Lucy like splashing in the water, my dad's, and it just like brings up the funniest memories for me. So it it was really a lovely morning, a funny little thing about a kid peeing in the lake. So good job, Elliot. Really nice time.
SPEAKER_00Thank you. It's like Moana, you know, when Moana uses fish pee on you as an insult to the ocean.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. I can't get him to love Moana as much as I do. Such a good movie.
SPEAKER_00I sing that Your Welcome song plenty of times. Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Every song in there just gets stuck in your head.
SPEAKER_00Good, good, good movie.
SPEAKER_01Great flick.
SPEAKER_00I don't got anything as funny as yours. I have more of a like sad moment. Oh no. Slash like, you know.
SPEAKER_01Oh, a sentimental sad moment.
SPEAKER_00Uh so you know, we had the uh car seat carrier thing. Yeah. Where it's great because you just put the kid in the carrier and move them wherever. The lightest car seat on the market. Yep. Uh it's great. Um, baby girl is uh a chunk.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00She don't fit.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, outgrow that infant one.
SPEAKER_00So, you know, you put her in there and something starts pinching, and she's just been miserable. Screaming. Yeah. Like actual tears. Which, you know, these are like the first actual tears coming out of the room. You know, like actual tears coming out of like I'm so angry about this. And I picked her up from daycare, and you know, the poor daycare teacher had her in the carrier, and she's just like losing her stuff. Yeah. So we had to put in the big kid's car seat. It's still not like a booster seat or anything like that, but you know, it's the bigger one.
SPEAKER_01Is she so happy now, though? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Here, let me show you the picture from this morning. Okay, I distinctly remember this transition, and the worst part is like you can't, if they fall asleep in the car seat, you have to wake them up now. But I distinctly remember putting Elliot into the other seat, and he was like so happy. Oh my god, you guys, she's thrilled. Oh, she fits so nicely in there. I know.
SPEAKER_00She's got her bow on, she's got her book. She does look fair. She's just like, I feel so happy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and then you're like, oh, I'm sad about this, but I feel like a jerk because you're so happy. I know, but she looks like a big girl. She really does, dude. I mean, I know I know a little something about big kids.
SPEAKER_00So was Elliot ever little?
SPEAKER_01No, oh my god. I haven't paid attention. Like, I see him every day, obviously. So I know he's tall. Oh he lives with you. I know he's tall, but we did a yard visit with some cousins we haven't seen in a little bit. And oh yeah, I saw it on the gram. So she um she's like what four foot seven? No, she's not short. Like, she's Libby, how old are you? She's got a job, she's gainfully employed out of college. Oh, good, good work. That's not easy in her younger 20s. Um, but I think she's 22 now. Anyway, or turns 22.
SPEAKER_00That's not how tall she is.
SPEAKER_01No, it's not. But my point is, she's not like she's not short. So she's above five feet. So I put Elliot standing next to me. Now I'm five seven, and Elliot is tall. That's tall for a lady to my chest area. So he's right below, say, where my underwire of my bra would be, everybody.
SPEAKER_00Is he really that tall? Yes.
SPEAKER_01Because I was like, oh, is that my belly button? Then I and then I had him stand as well. He's that tall.
SPEAKER_00He is yeah, he's that tall.
SPEAKER_01So anyway, I like actually laid in bed last night and was like, oh my god, is he gonna be like above seven feet? I should Google this. I feel nervous.
SPEAKER_00Well, did you get the like imaging of his bone plates or whatever? No, yeah, you should figure that out.
SPEAKER_01Like, is that thing I'm supposed to get from a doctor?
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, so Tyler's really good on the low post moves, but you know, maybe you need like, I don't know, somebody else to teach him. So figure out is he gonna be like a post-move player or is he gonna be like a I'll ask my doctor. Yeah. So we need to figure out like what type of coaching do we need to get Elliot? Yeah, this is priority right here. Uh I have a year of law school under my belt. I can be his agent.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, okay. I'm just gonna like I'll sign you up now. Yeah. He starts T ball next week, so maybe he'll go that route.
SPEAKER_00I hope baseball's not going well.
SPEAKER_01Well, it's T-ball, so it's gonna be terrible. Anyway, more on that next week.
SPEAKER_00More on that next week. Thank you for listening. Um, we're really stressed out about coronavirus, and like the whole world seems to have, and this isn't a second wave, this is just like still coronavirus.
SPEAKER_01So my sister's about to have her second baby, and I can't imagine what she's going through. Everyone's going through stuff, so it is just terrible.
SPEAKER_00I'm really worried for Shannon.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, it's gonna be great. Shannon, it's gonna be great. Send a new hug, man. But uh yeah, I can't so thanks for listening to us.
SPEAKER_01Talk it through with us. If you guys feel like you need a vent, just like vent in an email to us or whatever, and that's okay.
SPEAKER_00Or send us an audio file, we'll play it and react. We definitely won't laugh at you. We promise. We definitely will not laugh at you. It'll be laughing with you.
SPEAKER_01We promise. We promise.
SPEAKER_00We promise.
SPEAKER_01So otherwise, find us on social media, of course. So again, we're not on YouTube this week, but usually you can find us on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook at Dinner Post Brands Podcast.
SPEAKER_00Have a great week, guys. Bye-bye.
