Can You Tell the Difference Between a $15 and a $50 Bottle of Wine? - Pinkies Up Ep. 1

Welcome to our brand new wine series called Pinkies Up! In this series, we talk about questions normal wine drinkers have and try to answer them in unpretentious ways. We are excited to have this series out, and hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed making the episode!

For our first episode, we set out to answer the question of "Can you really taste a difference between a $15 bottle of wine and a $50 bottle of wine?" To find the answer, Nick brown bag tasted Bridget on 4 bottles of her favorite type of wine - California Cabernet Sauvignon. Bridget shares her thoughts on each bottle, and then had to guess a price range for each bottle, plus Nick drops a lot of tips along the way to help you understand why wine costs what it does and make you a better wine shopper. Listen to see if she thinks you can taste the difference, and if it's worth spending the extra money on the more expensive bottle!

Here are the wines we tried today:

  • Matthew Fritz Cabernet Sauvignon - North Coast, California - about $15 retail.
  • Buehler Cabernet Sauvignon - Napa Valley, California - about $30 retail.
  • Greenwing Cabernet Sauvignon - Napa Valley, California - about $30 retail.
  • Duckhorn Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley, California - about $50 (or more) retail.

You can also watch this episode on our YouTube channel if you'd like to see Bridget's reactions to each wine. Just click here to see the video.
